The Treasury will publish an advertisement recalling 1 650 000 of Second Liberty Loan 4 1 4 per cent bonds in about 15 000 newspapers nationwide. The plan, praised by Mr Mellon, targets small country weeklies and dailies as effective advertising media.
Congressman William W. Cohen blasts the government treatment of letter carriers and mail clerks as a disgrace. He says workers are underpaid and treated as substitutes, forced to wait for hours for minimal pay, while the United States pays its Post Office staff poorly.
The 3 000 B C gold was embellished with silver as silver was regarded more valuable than gold at that period.
Beaverhead post No 20 of the American Legion presents a 30 round boxing bout with a big dance and midnight barbecue in Lima Montana on Saturday June 11. Promoter J S Butner and the Lima community host the event with special rail fare for groups of 15 or more. Weather permitting the show aims to be the sporting event of the year in Beaverhead county.
The Dillon Rotary Club announced its annual election of officers and directors at a Wednesday meeting. J. H. Gilbert was chosen as president with L. K. Adams as vice president and T. E. Gilbert re elected secretary treasurer. The new board includes J. H. Gilbert L. K. Adams W. B. Hartwig Dr. W. H. Stephan and A. F. Waldorf. Gilbert will begin his year July 1 succeeding A. T. Peterson.
About 20 Campfire girls will travel to Elkhorn Springs on June 9 for a week long annual outing. Miss Helen Mae Smith, guardian, leads arrangements with a nurse and a mother accompanying the group. Activities include camp duties, sports, swimming, hiking, exercises, and basket making under Campfire rules.
A Waco plane named Miss Dillon, operated by Montana Airways, is under consideration for the New York to Spokane air race. A. W. Stephenson, the Miss Dillon pilot, is in Missoula teaching a student flying class and his participation remains undecided. Fred Woodside, president of Montana Airways, said Miss Dillon would be used if entrants face no machine restrictions.
The first in a series of recitals by Miss Nellie Little’s music pupils featured children aged 6 to 14 in piano solos songs and recitations. A second recital had pupils dressed as flowers with themed piano works and the program included recitations and dances. The third event will be a costume recital as readers await page four for continuation.
Beaverhead county residents have long claimed May was especially wet and cold. Weather records kept by J. E. Monroe show several springs with more moisture than this May. Temperature was unusually cold, with highs around 48 and lows near 29 above. The 1908 spring was the wettest in county history.
The Hartwig theater will showcase The Flaming Frontier on Sunday and Monday, reviving a fifty year old dispute that pitted military officials against civilian partisans. The piece marks 50 years since the Little Bighorn defeat of Gen. George A. Custer and the Seventh Cavalry by allied tribes.
All is ready for joint district conventions in Dillon on Saturday June 4. Delegates from seventeen lodges will attend with officers and honored guests including Sam P. Johnson H. B. Bolinger and W. B. Bennett. The program covers opening ceremonies roll calls readings and examinations plus district school sections and visitor inspections.
D A Galt of Beaverhead Motors says Ford confirmed plans to start immediate production of a new model to replace the present line. Details are scarce but the firm will stay in the light car field with a faster, more stylish and flexible design, likely higher cost to make but cheaper to operate. Industry speculation centers on whether the engine will be four or six cylinder. Ford will still manufacture Model T parts until demand for accessories drops off.
The training school auditorium hosted commencement for 45 eighth grade graduates, one of the largest classes in the school's history. Prof. Rush Jordan of the Normal college delivered the address while the school orchestra, under L. A. Gregory, performed, joined by a girls trio and the girls glee club.
Dillon camp of the Modern Woodmen received the state prize banner for the largest number of new members for 1926. State Deputy C. W. Molrine of Helena presented the award, and three new members were initiated. A midnight lunch followed, as Silver Bow drill team members arrived late due to bad roads from Butte.
