Local Judge Imposes Long Jail Term on Habitual Disturber

First Dredge Breezes Through Grasshopper Gold Dredges
The Grasshopper gulch near Bannack hosts the first U S gold dredges as described by County Engineer George Metlen. The initial 1895 dredge, built by a Philadelphia firm, underwent rebuilds before success and drew mining men nationwide to watch. The Montana Gold Dredging company operated the last Bannack dredge near Bon Accord, while a British owned dredge was later shipped to Oregon. In five years the dredge yielded about 350000 to 400000 dollars, with ten workers at the Ermont mine and notable ore findings by Hurley Leach and Malcolm Fleming in nearby districts.

The California Alder Gulch corporation received a order for a 1500 cubic yard capacity Sauer man dredge to work on its Virginia City property. The firm controls about 7000 acres of placer and quartz claims and a seven mile strip of placer ground nearby and expects the dredge to be in operation within 40 days.
