Report says the body discovered on an island in the Beaverhead River near Selway bridge week before last is identified as Peter Burke, brother of Thomas Burke the Oregon battleship musician. Coroner and undertaker found no marks of violence, and a Red Men lodge claim is unverified.

Shriners Hold Semi annual Ceremonial in Butte
In Butte the Shriners conducted a large semi annual ceremonial with many candidates initiated under the desert heat. Dillon sent two candidates James Paxton and Sheriff Marmaduke Gist while several Dillon Shriners attended. A lodge booklet warned candidates about honesty and noted the test may allow a return to rest on request from a family physician.

The Dillon ball club dominated the game from the start, with King striking out fifteen and giving up only four hits. Davis the new catcher and Barry the second baseman led the offense with solid defense and two home runs among six at bats. After the game Dillon reorganized as a club with elected officers and plans to boost funds by subscription to field a stronger team next season.

County board of correction hears assessor disputes
The board of county commissioners met as a board of correction of assessments and completed work in one day. They upheld the Electric company valuation raise, rejected a Tuscarora Mining petition, and endorsed the county assessor’s overall valuation with one small raise. The clock plan for the courthouse tower will be revisited August 13. J. W. Howard returned from Salmon City Idaho with a carload of tombstones.

A Dillon audience enjoyed a Woodcraft event at Burfiend hall last Friday with a strong program. Mesdames Wolf Kunzman and Huey led arrangements and presided over a polished musical and literary evening featuring Mrs F M Thomas at the piano, Mr and Mrs C W Scott in vocal numbers, and children presenting The Mulberry Bush Rainbow Drill and The Milkmaids Drill. Dancing followed with waltz and square dances into the night. In other news, John Ewing is buying the Lawrence A Brown ranch near Barretts for 18 000 dollars, comprising about 1370 acres, with legal papers in preparation in Dillon.

Three strangers appeared in Dillon last Saturday attempting to pass Confederate money. Carl Peterson, claimed from Pocatello, was arrested after a $10 bill was used to buy a watch at Huber Bros. Jewelry. The bank note, issued in Savannah in 1856, had two halves joined together. Peterson pleaded not guilty. preliminary hearing set for next Monday.
