Beaverhead game preserve boundaries will be adjusted after a Montana Fish and Game commission survey trip last week to expand winter range for wild animals. A large area will be released for sheep grazing. The preserve lies south of Fishtrap in the Foolhen mountain district and is a major moose sanctuary. Bond Election Planned for Beaverhead County High School
Beaverhead county high school board of trustees agreed to circulate petitions to place a bond issue on the November ballot for a new county high school building. About 600 signatures are needed from 20 percent of county taxpayers. A federal grant of 123,750 was received from the Spending-Lending program to aid the project, with total cost around 300,000 and the county to raise 176,250 via bonds.

Mining Men Prepare for State Meeting in Dillon
Montana Mining association plans its state convention August 5 and 6 in Dillon. About 300 to 350 visitors are expected with registration at city hall. Activities include tours of Bon Aceord, Banack, Ermont mine and Argenta with drills and mucking contests and a banquet plus dance.

Bannack Man Injured When Car Ditch Lands Miner
William Keppler a Bannack miner was injured when the Bannack and Big Hole basin mail truck left the road and overturned near the J M Giles place. Driver Lloyd Hughes escaped with minor injuries though the truck carried eggs groceries whiskey and other items scattered across the landscape. Keppler aged 73 was taken to Barrett hospital and despite multiple fractures and chest bruises rests comfortably.

County Favorites Win Nominations Tuesday
County voters in a temperate primary produced mild upsets and clear front runners. Web worm invasion feared after last month’s heavy rains has materialized in Beaverhead valley. Ranches including T. T. Mc Adam Maynard Miller Jens Christensen report worms on ranges. On Highway 91 thousands smeared by traffic. Authorities use chemicals and fire to halt the advance. Worms originate from moth eggs laid in dry grass along field edges.

C E Blinn, a Dillon man, was reported satisfactory in St. James hospital after a Saturday accident on the Butte Dillon highway. His car somersaulted and pancaked on its roof injuring him with three broken ribs. H L B Hatton suffered a wrenched shoulder and other bruises while assisting. The truck driver fled after forcing Hatton to pass. both men were taken to Butte by Sheriff Larry Weir and Deputy Amor Nelson.

Increased farm activity drives large state gasoline tax refunds
State Auditor John J. Holmes credits rising farming operations for most of a $137,738 gain in refunds of the five cent per gallon gasoline tax during the year ending June 30. Refunds totaled $901,012 last year, up from $763,273 the prior year. The tax is refunded for gasoline not used on highways and for gasoline used by counties and towns.
