Rotary International Convention described

Members of the Dillon Rotary club heard Frank Elier report on the Chicago convention noting friendliness as the keynote and detailing assemblies entertainment and activities. Rev F Scott Hollett spoke on the Montana Deaconess home. G T Paul chaired with Dr Davis announcing student transportation for annual trips to Virginia City and Bannack. Visitors included Dr M J Donovan Ernest Harding Marcus Rand and Martin Jackson.

Salmon Triumphs Over Locals In Sunday Baseball

Salmon defeated Dillon 7-2 at the athletic park on Sunday afternoon in a game marked by errors by the locals. Key moments included Swift scoring on two-base hits, Parsons with a three-base hit and a triple play, while pitching saw Vandegrift, Gordon, and McIntosh yield runs across 6 2/3 innings.

Mrs Hoover Sister Visits Dillon Ranch in Girl Scout Event

Janet Large sister of Mrs Herbert Hoover and national Girl Scouts director visited the Isaac Edinger ranch near Divide with her daughter. Senior Girl Scouts from Butte Anaconda Desy Lodge and Dillon toured the ranch for a day. Helen Ida Best daughter of Dr and Mrs H F Best was Dillon’s delegate. Mrs Large lives at the White House Washington and writes on Girl Scout activities. Mrs Edinger is a national Girl Scout director. State fire relief leaders attended Bozeman convention and reported an interesting session and fine program.

Funeral Services for Miss Mildred Peterson

Funeral services for the late Miss Mildred Peterson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Peterson, were held last Monday at the Masonic hall with Rev A M Romstad officiating. Interment followed at Mountain View cemetery under Mizpah Chapter Eastern Star. The large crowd from across the county honored the young graduate of Beaverhead County High School. Pallbearers were Byron Orr Donald Light Oscar Anderson Robert Finch Eddie Bager Joe Ryburn. She died in Los Angeles from injuries after an automobile accident last Thursday morning.

Five Men Arrested in Dillon Gasoline Pilfering Case

Dillon officers captured five men on theft charges for siphoning gasoline from cars in town. W T Dodge and Henry Gregerson were nabbed on Dakota Street after a homeowner interrupted them at Bud Galt’s car. Jack Smith was detained at Beaverhead Auto Garage as a stolen token and Gregerson held a stolen pen from Mrs Mayme Allen. Leon Heart and Arthur Fife, from Idaho, were arrested near the Diggle Emerick residence. All five were jailed.

Highway surveyor reports Montana south highway progress

George R Metlen attended the state highway commission meeting in Helena to present estimates for the Daly spur to Redrock segment. TT Lawler of Butte won a 127591 contract for the highway and Tom McGreever of Butte secured 6182 for a concrete bridge. The road will be macadamized next year and extend 28.5 miles from Dillon to Butte with an unbroken 90 mile southern stretch. oiling is under way and seven miles north from Dillon is being treated, with road closures during work.

Beaverhead County Primary Yields Light Ballot Across Party

Beaverhead voters cast a light primary ballot with about 1 000 votes, roughly 38 percent of registered electors. Judge H G Rodgers led the state ticket with 672 votes but lost the nomination as rivals split the field. Contested county races produced winners A L Anderson for county commissioner and W B Hartwig for Democrat sheriff, with Dan Mooney and others securing key county posts. The unofficial county returns precede Thursday’s official count.

LDS Church Picnic Brings Sixty To Argenta Social

The L D S church picnic last Sunday at Rattlesnake near Argenta drew about sixty attendees. A bountiful lunch and sports program followed by ice cream and pink lemonade. games and fishing accompanied songs. Gosman drug store provided balloons for children. Contest winners included Dale Harkness, Jay Casterline, Elsie Lloyd, Bolton Lloyd, Mrs. C Tolley, Fred Moore, Bolton Lloyd and Buddy Moore, and C Tolley.

Two Young Men Held for Robbery in Idaho Stolen Car Tied to Helena

Ray Ward and Charles Webb were arrested in Pocatello by Sheriff Orr and brought to Armstead to face charges of robbing at least two pool halls while traveling in a Chevrolet reported stolen from Helena on July 8. They admitted being in Armstead Monday night and denied the Monida pool hall robbery where about 100 worth of tobacco and merchandise were taken. loot unrecovered and believed cached near Rigby. Citywide mild earthquake rattles dishes but causes no damage

A slight quake struck shortly after 6 PM Saturday causing general alarm citywide. No damage or subsequent shocks were reported. The tremor reached Butte Billings Helena Deer Lodge and was detected by a Denver seismograph. Dishes rattled and objects swayed but the event was less severe than a prior June quake.

Sage Hen Season Set For August 3 4 5

The state game commission has set sage hen open season for August 3 4 and 5 after a Bea verhead Sportsmen association petition. The daily limit is five birds with a five bird possession cap. Locals requested a three bird limit, but that request was denied.
