Alfalfa Haying Underway in Beaverhead Valley
Harvesting is well underway in the Beaverhead valley with abundant labor and orderly operations. Farmers expect about normal yields but overall harvest may be lighter due to late-season timing, with 31 000 acres producing an initial cut of 50 000 to 60 000 tons. In the Big Hole basin haying starts later but faces good yield prospects pending weather. After the season a 50 year Battle of the Big Hole commemorative event is planned, along with a potential dedication for the new Gibbonsville road.
