Dillon Pilot in Great Air Derby

A. W. Stephenson will pilot the Dillon entry in the New York Spokane national air derby this September flying the latest Waco model. Stephenson, a veteran Northwest aviator and teacher with the Montana Air Service, has assisted Will Rogers on Montana tours and will return with Hughes from Idaho Falls to Dillon after demonstrating a new Waco 10.

Great Falls Firm Wins Big Hole River Bridge Contract

McGuire and Blakslee of Great Falls secured the $15,795 contract to build a 152 foot steel bridge over the Big Hole river at Divide replacing the Wise river flood structure. Three bids were received with Illinois Bridge Co at 15,983 and W. R. Roscoe of Billings at 16,210. The bridge will have a concrete top and steel framework and is funded jointly by Beaverhead and Silver Bow counties.

Selway Wool Brings High Price in State

The I. O. Selway wool clip of about 9 000 fleeces sold to Dewey Gould & Co. of Boston last Friday for 57 cents per pound, the top price in Beaverhead county and likely the state's record this year. Howard Candland of Salt Lake City, the firm’s local reps Foster and Melton attended to close the deal, as most county wool sales conclude with prices from 35 to 37 cents for the final buying period.

B C Crowley and several men surveying in Frying Pan basin Tuesday killed fourteen large rattlesnakes and one small one. They may have missed a few, but the tally for Tuesday stood at that count.

Dillon resident Hugh L. McCaleb was appointed to the executive board of the State Normal college and approved by the state board of education at Helena meeting. Dillon seeks approval for Dr. S. M. Davis’s plan to inaugurate a four year course of study at the Normal college.

An Associated Press report from Helena notes President Sheldon E. Davis urged a four year program for the Dillon State Normal College and the abolition of regional summer schools and correspondence study due to cost and quality concerns. The Montana state board backed actions including removing instructor W B Carroll from the School of Mines faculty at Butte. Dean R J Jesse will become dean of the staff of colleges and a new university office will oversee scholarships.

At the regular meeting of Diana Rebekah lodge two candidates were initiated and officers were installed for the last half of 1927. Named officers include N. G. Hazel Conger V. G. A large mid week crowd attended the Dillmont park dance on Wednesday evening. The Four Horseman’s Orchestra from the Louvre cabaret in Salt Lake City provided the music.
