Pioneer Matron Alma Kirkpatrick Dies in Frying Pan Basin
Mrs Alma C Kirkpatrick wife of Bannack pioneer James Kirkpatrick died Friday at her Frying Pan basin ranch after weeks of illness. Born December 25 1854 in Rockville Indiana she came to Beaverhead valley 53 years ago teaching in early Dillon schools. Survived by her husband sister Harley Thompson of Billings adopted son Wiley and several nieces and nephews Funeral held Sunday at 2 30 pm at the Methodist church with Rev J A Meeke officiating interment Mountain View cemetery.

Calf Butchery Charge Placed Against Two Men in Argenta
Charles Crownholm alias Charles Larson and Larry Donoho were arraigned in Judge Bennett's court on a charge of illegally butchering a calf near Argenta. They were ordered to enter a plea by July 11.

World War Veteran Frank McLean Dies at 89
Frank McLean 89 a ranch foreman and veteran of World War I died at Barrett hospital after a pneumonia illness. He was born in Barbara Coull Scotland came to America as a boy worked on local sheep ranches notably with Selway Sheep Company and served with Beaverhead American Legion. Funeral Thursday at 2 30 from Brundage chapel with Rev T J Simons presiding. He leaves four living brothers Alex Dillon Malcolm Drake Neil and William and two brothers who died in the war.

City Council Sets Tax Levy For Coming Year
A special council meeting adopted the budget and set the tax levy at 16.5 mills for the new year. Lighting district rates were reduced about 1 and 0.37 dollars per 25 foot lot in districts 8 and the residential district respectively. Sprinkling tax remains. overall tax revenue declines due to lower property values, with estimated receipts: general fund 12812 dollars, street and alley 1772.96, library 844.76, cemetery 492.84, and fire department 659.48.
County Board Posts Unsafe Twitchell Bridge
The Twitchell bridge in the Centennial valley is posted condemned until a repairs crew can work. Deputy state examiner B A Risley cited an attorney general ruling that the board of county commissioners controls the fair grounds except during the county fair when the grounds are run by the fair board. Bedrock Valley Livestock group backs state control of lands
At a Dell Montana meeting on June 30 1982 members passed resolutions urging President Hoover to submit unappropriated public lands to states for acceptance or rejection and to seek unrestricted transfer to Montana. They asked Congress to push legislation enabling transfer so the 23rd Montana Legislative Assembly can address the issue. Wages set for haying at 1.25 dollars per day and 1 dollar per ton for hauling hay and 1.25 dollars per ton for wild hay. Ranchers from southern county and Big Hole basin attended.

New Postage Rates In Effect Tuesday
Postage changes take effect Tuesday July 5 with three cent local mail stamps required after 12 o clock. Air mail goes 8 cents first ounce and 18 cents each additional ounce. Man Found Dead in Big Hole Basin Roadside
William Davis about 50 was found dead Sunday morning beside a Wisdom road. Officers said probable natural death from heart attack or exposure after a wagon ride with Hathaway. Davis had been employed in Big Hole basin. coroner and sheriff ruled no inquest needed.

Woman in car crash near Armstead treated for injuries
Mrs. Elmer Gordon of Armstead was brought to the city Thursday evening in an unconscious condition after an automobile accident on the highway near Armstead. Walking with her husband she avoided one car then was struck by another. she was treated at Barrett hospital and described in serious but not life threatening condition.

The Beaverhead Mining association held its third annual meeting at the court house with leaders elected. William Logan named president for the coming year, B. J. Metlen as vice president, Roy Herndon and J. C. Fuller re elected secretary and treasurer. The board of directors was retained with one change, W A Gracter replacing George French for Argenta district. The group plans to re establish the Sugar Bowl cafe headquarters, revise bills for the next legislature, and set August 14 for a Sacajawea park picnic. A Frying Pan and McCarthy survey is requested from the Butte School of Mines along with other aims to promote mining in the county.

Old-time Bannack resident Mrs Gibson dies in Phoenix
Mrs Margaret A Gibson an early Bannack resident died last Wednesday at her niece's home in Phoenix Arizona. Her body arrived in Butte for burial. Born in Rockburn Quebec about 89 years ago she moved west with her husband Archie Gibson in the late 1800s and settled at Bannack where he was closely linked to mining circles.
