Surplus forecasts and tax pace in Coolidge budget
President Coolidge reported a near 990 million dollar surplus for the year ending June 30 and a 185 million dollar projected surplus for 1927 with 20 million for 1928, while warning of no immediate tax cuts and proposing a 2 percent personnel savings plan. He cautioned a weaker 1928 outlook and urged budget discipline to avoid turning surpluses into deficits.
