The Beaverhead County Board meets in regular session January 6 1919 with D D McKnight J E Shaw and O M Best presiding. New actions include appointing McKnight as chairman for two years authorizing inventories for county machinery and Poor Farm goods appointing a coroner and approving payroll and county funds for the month.

Montana Sees $8 Million Gain If Highway Bill Passes

Chief Engineer Pratt reports on the Bankhead highway bill potential for Montana a $12 million state share from a $600 million program and a reduced 26 percent cooperation requirement under proposed amendments. Security State Bank Elects Directors and Officers

The Security State Bank held its annual stockholders meeting on January 14. Directors elected include C. C. Thornton, Marshall Field, Nels Nelson, A. F. Waldorf and John Peterson. Thornton re elected president Nelson vice president Field cashier. Deposits rose from 74116.75 to 144601.69 year end 1917 to 1918. Resources climbed from 159137.35 to 227076.52.

Reminiscences of a Western Railway Expedition

E L Jones recounts an Oregon Short Line survey party led by Captain Berthoud in the late 1870s from Oneida Idaho toward Helena Montana. The expedition faced Indian threats, built camps at places like Pocatello and Idaho Falls, crossed the Snake River at Eagle Rock, and divided at Bedrock while advancing toward Salisbury amid growing unrest and sightings of hostile bands.

Beloved Matron Taken by Death in Dillon

A Dillon community report notes the death of Mrs. Frank Hazelbaker at 2:00 a.m. from influenza pneumonia after a week of illness. The funeral were held at the family home with Rev. H. G. Humphrey officiating, and a large procession escorted the remains to Mountain View cemetery. Mrs. Hazelbaker, born Carrie Woodworth in Wisdom Montana, leaves her husband Frank A. Hazelbaker a son Frank Jr. and her parents George and Mrs. Woodworth.

Butte Rod and Gun Members Shoot in Dillon Event

Last Sunday several members of the Butte Rod and Gun club visited Dillon by invitation and competed at the new shooting pavilion in Dillmont park. The Dillon club now has 36 members with Otto Schultz as captain and manager.

Store Expansion at Golden Rule Mercantile

The Golden Rule Mercantile Company has acquired the adjoining Buffet saloon room to merge it with the existing store. Three rooms will be removed of partitions to form a single large space. The north room will house the dry goods and ladies goods departments.
