Figures from the state board of equalization show Beaverhead county remains Montana’s leading livestock county. In 1936 cattle valued at 1,601,635 placed Beaverhead ahead of Big Horn. cattle numbers 66,922. Sheep at 167,213 head valued 745,051. total county livestock value 2,579,547 with personal property other than livestock 2,032,966. Blaine ranked second in cattle head and value.

Ranch Hand Dies of Heart Attack at Montana Ranch
Stricken while sweeping the bunkhouse at Poindexter and Orr One ranch, Jatt Stimac, a well known ranch hand and Austria native who resided in Montana for 28 years and worked at the 2. and O. ranch 21 years, died before aid could arrive. Body shipped to Helena for friends. He was well known in the community.

Clark Anderson recalls arriving in Dillon fifty years ago on January 7 1887 and describes the early town with Dart's and Eliel's as the only businesses. He notes the First National Bank in a small building opposite Walters garage and a near vacant Bannack and Idaho streets. The harsh 1886 87 winter caused heavy livestock losses and bare ground only after three months.

Auxiliary quilters present seven quilts for Helena veterans hospital
The rehabilitation committee of the American Legion auxiliary led by Mrs Glenn Lyon completed seven quilts to be donated to the new veterans hospital in Helena. The quilts are on display at McCracken's store. The same committee, which also runs the auxiliary dance, announced the March 17 event whose proceeds will help fund the Barrett hospital tent.

Edgar Rife Heads County Board in 1937 Session
Beaverhead County commissioners opened the first 1937 session at the courthouse Monday with Edgar B. Rife elected chairman for two years. The board organized for the year, county officers' bonds were approved, deputies sworn in, and routine business begun. Rife, a Medicine Lodge rancher’s son, is a Beaverhead native educated locally and elected for a four year term two years ago.

Coyote Chased by Car Then Shot Near Twin Bridges
Otto Schulz reduced coyote numbers on a sheep camp trip north of Twin Bridges by first running the animal down after it darted in front of his car and then shooting it. Coyotes threat to winter sheep feeds has local shepherds calling for hunters and trappers, with a bounty proposed. Announcements report the birth of a daughter Ellen Catherine on December 2 in Dillon.

At a special Mizpah Chapter No. 13 meeting in the Mason hall officers were installed led by Elizabeth Luebben as installing officer. New officers include Mary Curry as worthy matron and R. D. Welder Narrowly Escapes Explosion At Uley's Welding
A gas barrel brought to Uley's Welding for a leak fix exploded during a rinsing procedure. The welder jumped back as flames ripped the drum top and shot a sheet of fire to the ceiling. Several workers nearby were unhurt and only interior damage occurred. Richard Conklin was admitted to Murray Hospital in Butte for treatment.
