Pioneer George Kirkham Dies at 66 in Sheridan

Special correspondence from SxeERmayn reports George Kirkham of Sheridan Montana died December 23 1901 at his home after seven weeks illness from a prior abdominal injury. He was born in Canandaigua County New York and lived in Helena before moving to Sheridan where he resided since. A Mason, he was mourned by friends and family with services and interment in Sheridan cemetery.

Christmas Entertainment At Sunday School A Success

Special Correspondence reports a crowded hall for the Sunday school Xmas program on Christmas Eve with children speaking and singing until Santa Claus distributed presents. A Christmastide social dance followed on Christmas night. Mrs Wheeler’s husband Lorin Wheeler died of heart trouble in Norris, with Mrs Wheeler remaining in Rochester this winter. New Year’s Eve mine whistles and fireworks marked the year change. Mrs Taylor’s baby shows improvement and Miss Pearl Paire visits from Butte.

Mine accident kills Dillon carpenter near Bannack

Fred C. Hastings a 35 year old Dillon carpenter died in a cave in at the Huron mine near Bannack while preparing timbers. The accident occurred as witnesses described a sudden timber fall and the shaft, covered by planks, caused fatal injuries. Hastings leaves a wife and six year old son. He was buried at Mountain View Cemetery after funeral services at the Masonic Temple.

Mining Accident Leads to Fatal Fall at Huron Shaft

The coroner’s inquest heard John Peterson recount a cave-in at the Huron mine near the Batchelder cabin. Hastings was killed when a timber and rock crushed him after the shaft wall collapsed during timbers retrieval.

Painful Accident Near Grayling Involving Patay McManemy

A young man named Patay McManemy, about 133 years old, was badly injured Monday evening when he was thrown from a wagon while rushing to catch a train to Grayling. He struck his head, shoulder and arm after the wheel hit a rock, walked home, and lost memory of the incident. Dr. Bond attended and hopes for recovery with careful nursing.
