Former Dillon Resident Rose Poindexter Gilbert Dies in Seattle

Mrs. Rose Poindexter Gilbert died Sunday in Seattle after a short illness. Born October 21 1880 in Beaverhead she lived in Dillon through high school before moving to Butte then Seattle. Survived by husband J W Gilbert two children Jeanette and Myles mother Kate Poindexter Lynn brother Marvin Poindexter and sister Edith Poindexter. Funeral held in Seattle.

WORTHY GRAND MATRON VISIT TO DILLON

Joliet’s Mrs. Jeanette Tidyman, worthy grand matron of the Eastern Star in Montana, visited Mizpah Chapter No. 13 in Dillon last Monday. She attended a luncheon at Mrs. T. F. Smebben’s home and a banquet by past matrons, followed by an exemplification of the order’s work at the Masonic hall.

Neighbors of Woodcraft Honor Mrs Lyon With Party

A surprise party followed a Neighbors of Woodcraft meeting to honor Mrs Glen Lyon on her wedding anniversary. After pinochle, refreshments were served as Mrs Earl Crichton posted high score and Mrs George Farrell placed low.

Firemen's Dance at Dillon Draws Large Crowd

Washington's birthday masquerade at Dillon city hall hall drew a large crowd. Baxter Tonney orchestra supplied music. Prizes went to Mrs Dufur for ladies costume and Louis Schmittroth for the men's costume. Alex Meade won for comic character imitating Charles Chaplin.

Eliels, top independent state team, saw their 13 game streak end as Texaco Oilers won 41 to 26 in Butte on a fast game on a small K C gym floor. Contway led Eliels with 10 points and Manion added 14 for Butte.

Farmers Party Set At High School Friday Night

Farmers and ranchers and their families are invited to the high school gym Friday evening for the annual farmers party hosted by the AG club and domestic science girls. J. E. Rich Gold Strike Stirs Bannack Mining Community

Reports from Dillon say a fabulously rich vein may have been struck on an I B Mining company claim at Bannack. CG W Stallings, Bannack mining figure and director, arrived and hedged the claim while noting development work ongoing. Indications point to resumed operations and possible power line construction reviving Bannack’s busy period. Stallings serves on the Beaverhead Mining association board representing Bannack district.

State highway commission awarded bids for 111 miles gravel surfacing 94 miles oil treatment and 18 miles regrading plus nine bridges at Helena. Washington's Birthday Party Held by Masonic Groups

Members of the Masonic bodies Eastern Star Rainbow and DeMolay gathered at the Masonic hall last Saturday for a Washington's birthday celebration. R F E Albright spoke from the Normal College faculty with remarks on Washington. Judge H G Rodgers George W Dart and Donald Bayerd also spoke. Rainbow members performed songs and dances and Miss Betty Hall daughter of Mr and Mrs W K Hall gave a dance. Refreshments followed the program.

Prominent rancher dies at Dell after illness

Beaverhead county ranchman Wall a died suddenly at his Dell home Monday morning after a short illness. He served in World War I with Company B 13th Infantry and is survived by his wife Florence, son William Jr., his mother, two sisters, and a brother. Funeral held Wednesday at St. Rose Church with full military honors.

Dr M A Walker Dies Sudden in Butte Hospital

Dr Maurice A Walker a prominent Montana physician and Masonry leader died suddenly at Murray hospital Butte after heart failure. He had traveled for examination and entered the clinic at his family's urging. A Dillon resident for nearly 30 years he was highly regarded for citizenship and medical service.

The Beaverhead American Legion post reports a strong membership push led by Adjutant George Baker. Current total is 76 percent of last year, with plans for a district convention including a 6:30 banquet at the Montana hotel and a membership report. Dillon Rotarians welcomed Governor Sterling M. Wood of the Sixth District for his annual Dillon visit. Wood spoke on Rotary service and six objects, urging service above self and global problem solving. Local educators and Twin Bridges visitors joined for the luncheon and a follow up address in Twin Bridges.
