President J E Monroe resigns Montana college post
President Joseph E Monroe has resigned as head of the Montana State Normal College. He sent the notice to Governor Stewart last Saturday and will leave at the close of the fiscal year on March 1 or no later than March 21. The announcement sparked consternation among faculty and students who regret his departure after more than two decades with the institution.

Hon Alden J Bennett dies at his Virginia City home on February 13 after muscular paralysis. Born June 25 1847 in New York, he led Madison County finance as president of Madison State Bank and advised others including Bank of Twin Bridges and Silver Bow National Bank. He left a wife Mary Bennett daughter Mina Bennett son Lyman Bennett and two grandsons Alden Jr and Jayman Jr.

Former Butte Woman Buried at Wisdom
Mrs. W. F. Packard 42, died at Wisdom Montana February 6. Born Ella Gertrude Wampler July 27, 1876 in Vincennes Indiana she moved with her family to Butte in 1885 and later to the Big Hole basin. She married William F. Packard in 17 and lived in Walkerville Lincolnville Maine before returning to the Big Hole. She leaves husband eight children three grandchildren and many relatives. Interment was in Wisdom cemetery February 9. Butte Miner.
