She noted Cardenas cannot seek re election in 1940 and cited land reform, oil expropriation, reduced illiteracy, and growing trade schools as signs of a changing Mexico. She quoted a Newspaperman praising Mexicans as sincere and hopeful. Conrad Orr announced the district basketball tournament at Anaconda and tickets were on sale at Gosman Drug. C. J. Hoyten opened the meeting. guests included C. H. Rice of Bozeman and William Fair, high school guest of the month.

Bulldogs edge Mexican quintet in rough exhibition
The Normal school Bulldogs beat the National University of Mexico 47 46 in Spokane after a fast, rough exhibition. Mexico played shorthanded due to injuries and fouls with several players in foul trouble during the second half. Dupuis Sekulich and Sanfen starred as the Bulldogs rallied from deficits and held off late Mexican pressure for the win.

Lost pilot found unharmed after high altitude flight
Roy Schreck, a weather observer from the Spokane weather bureau, was reported safe today after being missing since Sunday morning. He took off to record weather, reported leaving at 15 000 feet and drifting eastward with a plane laden with ice.

Teachers Hold Quarterly Meeting Of Beaverhead Unit
About 35 teachers from across Beaverhead county attended a Tuesday dinner meeting at the Totem cafe for the Beaverhead county unit of the Montana Education Association. Delegates and alternates to the state MEA assembly were chosen, with Hi L. Fairbanks Lima O K Moe and Margaret Sweeney Dillon elected, and Ruby Rogness Gladys Forrester Helen Dahlberg named alternates.

Resignation Accepted for St James Parish Rector
Rev Tragitt will resign as rector of St James parish Dillon last week to take another church post in Burbank California within the Los Angeles diocese. Vestry unanimously accepted the resignation to take effect early in March. He has led the Dillon church for over ten years since July 1928, the longest tenure since Rev D Hooker. He came to Dillon from Detroit Lakes Minnesota and is a Columbia University and University of the South graduate. He serves on the general convention commission and remains active in church affairs.

Double tragedy shocks Thomsen Avenue couple
Officers found Archie M. Arbuckle aged 76 and his wife Lillian M. Arbuckle 74 dead in a two room cabin off Thomsen Avenue. Coroner’s inquest found Mrs Arbuckle died from two gunshots by her husband. the man appeared to shoot himself after killing her. Witnesses included neighbors the police chief and undertaker. The tragedy unfolded between six and eight p m and the inquest is set for Saturday at 2 p m. Burial for Mrs Arbuckle planned for Mountain View cemetery.

Beaverhead valley battled a deep freeze last week with official readings at 33 degrees below zero. By Wednesday afternoon the temperature climbed to two degrees below as a bright winter sun returned. Highway 91 in Montana closed and Monida Pass blocked by snow drifts while trains faced minor delays. locals stayed indoors. Some ranch reports put readings as low as 38 degrees below zero.

Charity Ball Saturday Is Success

A large crowd attended with advance ticket sales above average, raising about 105 for needy children’s food medical care and clothing. German-born sheepherder Frank Lotcieu dies at county farm
Frank Lotcieu aged 83 died at the county poor farm Wednesday. He had lived for years in Dillon in a cabin on North Idaho Street and was recently moved to the county farm. Born in Germany, he worked as a sheepherder on various county ranches. Funeral arrangements await word from relatives in Lake Forest Illinois.
