Manslaughter Plea Change in Montana Case
Ernest Marchand a 49 year old sheepherder changed his plea from not guilty to manslaughter in connection with the slaying of Joseph Bruner 63. The incident occurred last May at Bruner’s cabin on the west side. Marchand received a ten year sentence for manslaughter and was committed to the state prison at Deer Lodge.

Renfro Tops Montana Trapshooting Averages in 1936
E. W. Renfro deputy sheriff of Dillon posted the state high trapshooting average for 1936 as 0.9731 after firing at 2275 targets and breaking 2214. He belongs to the Dillon Gun club. Chester E. Poole of Butte visited Dillon for official business.

Veteran Railroad Fireman Freeman Dies at Lima Home
David R. Freeman 47 Oregon Short Line fireman died Saturday morning at his Lima residence after a long illness. Born in Evanston Wyoming October 16 1889 he joined the Oregon Short Line about 19 years ago and served 18 years as a fireman on road locomotives. Survived by wife four children and his father in Lima the family noted Freeman’s illness and service to the railroad.

President's Ball At City Hall Draws Large Crowd
Despite frigid weather a large crowd attended the annual President's Birthday ball at city hall auditorium. Student admission was 50 cents this year attracting many younger residents. A total of 90 dollars was raised with about 45 dollars allocated to a Montana institution for crippled children and 45 to a national foundation.

Decision Rendered In Civil Lawsuit At Dillon
District Judge Henry G. Rodgers ruled Saturday in favor of plaintiff A. E. L. East in the case against Quick Print Publishing Co involving a writ of attachment. A Thursday hearing before Judge Rodgers drew about 15 witnesses, many Dillon business men, for testimony. That afternoon a sheriff sale disposed of seized paper ink and metal under the judgment writ.

Coach and spouse endure cold car trouble near Divide
Coach and Mrs Carl Ross faced 30 below weather after their car stalled five miles north of Divide while returning from Beaver Central game. They sought shelter. Mrs Ross walked two miles to a ranch house and Coach Ross hiked five miles to Divide to phone.

Beaverhead high crushed Butte Central 87 to 19 at Butte on Saturday. Montana State Normal defeated Eastern Normal 44 to 36 at the college gym. Cashmore led the Beavers with 19 points as Beaverhead rolled over Butte while Normal edged Eastern in a tight, fast game. Beavers also beat Butte High 30124 at the Normal gym, claiming a third Class A scalp in a week with a dramatic home crowd finale. Mrs. Mary Thomas, wife of Isador Thomas and longtime city resident, died at her Thomson Avenue home Tuesday morning after a brief illness. She was 69, a native of Austria, who spent most of her life in the country. Surviving her husband is a nephew, Jack Skender of Butte.
