The Beaverhead county year 1926 reports 71 deaths and 92 births. Causes include five accidental deaths, two due to barn and store fires, and several heart and crisis-related deaths. October saw 12 deaths, with peaks also in June and September. Girls outnumber boys 57 to 35 in births. May marked a record 16 births.
The Shay automobile was awarded to Miss Titler a Normal student at a Hartwig theater drawing held Thursday night. The car was donated by the Hartwig theater and the Montana Mercantile Co. The theater was packed for the drawing of the number.
In a chronological arrangement by Miss Helen Wheat, four numbers were drawn and the fifth from the charn was handed to Prof. Gibson in the audience who read the winning number 9280.
Ninety seven marriage licenses were issued by Clerk Fred Rife, a county record. Of these, 38 went to Idaho couples and in 10 cases one spouse was from Idaho. Dillon home residence appeared for eight couples, with 12 more having a bride or groom residing here. Thirty two couples had prior marriages, and 27 other cases involved previous matrimonial experience. Three couples were over 45, eight over 40, eleven couples were both 21 or younger with a 17 count where the bride was under 20. Continued on page four.
Senator Hazelbaker and Representative Rife with spouses and children left for Helena to spend 60 days in the state capital. Hazelbaker presides as president pro tem of the senate in his second term while Rife, a ranchman from the county's southern end, serves his first term.
A Hudson coach believed stolen in Butte was wrecked near Apex late Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. No injuries are reported and local officers investigate to identify the driver.
Olive Jane Brigham six year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Wesley O Brigham of Butte was rescued from a pond at Columbia gardens Wednesday afternoon after breaking through ice. Peggy four year old sister and two other children playing on the ice aided the rescue. The Brighams were married in Dillon about 1919 and lived there for a time. Mr Brigham now manages a Skaggs store in Butte.
The Beavers defeated Sheridan High 43 to 10 Wednesday evening at Sheridan to extend their season win streak. Several Dillon fans accompanied the squad to the Madison town venue.
A letter from Helena Commercial club seeks A. T. Crossley s view on urging the state legislature to appropriate funds for a permanent mining exhibit. Crossley, a Birch creek mining figure based in Apex Montana, is asked to advise as many states bolster mining displays.
Deputy Albert Gruwell traveled to Wenatchee Washington to seize Nicholas J Gribnaul wanted on a Dillon felony charge. He will also visit a sister he has not seen in years while in the city and has accepted Sheriff Elect Orrs offer to stay in office.
