Christmas Services Shine Across Dillon Churches

Dillon churches observed the season with varied services from Christmas Eve vigils to morning masses and choir performances. The week featured programs by Methodist Presbyterian Latter Day Saints Baptist Catholic Lutheran St James and community efforts including Girl Scouts and Elks aiding hospital patients and the annual Rotary Christmas tree festival drawing hundreds.

Fred Rife Re elected Beaverhead Red Cross Chairman

Fred Rife was again elected county chairman of the Beaverhead Chapter of the American Red Cross. Other officers elected include Edith Herndon as vice chairman and Georgia Hinthes as secretary and treasurer. Plans for 1931 were discussed with committees named for volunteer, home, junior Red Cross and nursing activities.

Youngster Promoted to Senior Degree in Curtis Salesmen

Webster McCulley son of Mr and Mrs J H McCulley has earned a Christmas present by advancing to the Senior Degree in Curtis salesmen an organization for Curtis publication sellers run by Curtis Publishing company Philadelphia The award includes a senior pin business cards membership in the Y M C A a certificate of ranking and prospect of a graduate certificate toward college aid of 1500 dollars.

Beavers Fall to Twin Bridges In Season Opener

Beaverhead high school's Beavers lose 22 to 28 on their home floor to Twin Bridges speedy hoopsters. Swift passes and sharp breaking thrilled the crowd as Coach Breeden obliges a fast paced battle. In a preliminary Eliel's Independents beat Twin Bridges Independents 18 to 38.

Renfro to Shoot with American Team Abroad

Ted Renfro of Dell, a leading American scatter gun ace, will travel with Warren and Spinger to compete internationally. The trio will start in England on January 19, facing top sharpshooters, and finish in Monte Carlo on March 19.

New Game Reserve Created Near Lima and Other Actions

The Montana Fish and Game Commission in Helena opened two counties to ice fishing for whitefish in winter 1930 31 near Cascade and Lewis and Clark and created a Lima Beaverhead game preserve with upland game protection. It ordered hatcheries at Libby and Emigrant and closed Black Leaf creek Pattee creek and Pea lake to fishing. The commission urged unemployment relief and warned of a $29000 treasury until spring licenses arrive while opposing some license fee hikes.

Pretty Wedding in Melrose Unites Louise Lovett and Chester Stine

A Christmas afternoon ceremony at the Melrose Presbyterian Church united Miss Louise Lovett of Melrose and Mr. Chester Stine of Butte with Rev. Thomas J. Simons officiating. The bride wore orchid satin and was escorted by her uncle Eugene Molleur. After a rose procession and a silver tinsel belt ring rite, a dinner at Mrs. Eugene Dutch’s home followed before the couple’s planned Bygone honeymoon and return to Butte. Mrs. Alvin Stone traveled 41 miles on snowshoes from Shoup Idaho to attend.

A thief with a taste for silk stockings lingerie and jewelry broke into a Montana rooming house last evening and stole several items, according to a sheriff's office complaint.

At the benefit drawing held Wednesday afternoon at the Electric Shop Otto Vandegrift number 404 won the Whippet car Anson Baxter number 231 took the Crossley radio and Miss Alice Stevenson of Helena number 484 won the piano Proceeds from ticket sales will fund sending a Dillon resident to Arizona for his health.

Ora Roselle purchases the entire interests of the Monida hotel from Mrs. O J Smith of Monida who also runs a town store. Roselle announces he will assume management immediately. The hotel is described as one of the state’s best small hotels and is well located on the Sunshine highway through Monida.

Butte Couple Injured in Curved Highway Crash

Mr and Mrs William O Neill of 11387 Caledonia Street Butte were injured when their car left a curved state highway south of Glen last evening about 8 o clock. Mrs O Neill had facial injuries and possible arm fracture while Mr O Neill suffered broken teeth and other injuries as the wrecked car was hauled to Butte for medical care. Mrs Metta Roland and her son William helped extricate them.

Golfers brave cold winds for nine holes at Dillon club

At Dillon Country club, at least three members joined a Sunday afternoon round enjoying sunny weather. Players found breezes chilly but manageable, finishing all nine holes as greens stayed dry enough for putting despite remaining fairways partly drifted and snow covered.

Legislators Back Normal School Support At Dillon Event

The Dillon Rotary hosted a well attended reception at the State Normal College dormitory Thursday evening with legislators from Beaverhead and surrounding counties. Frank Eliel presided as master of ceremonies for speeches and musical numbers by local and Normal College performers. Several lawmakers including Senator Pearl Smith, Rep. Peter McDermath, Rep. Joe Metlen, and Lt. Gov. F. A. Atkinson spoke on continued support for the state education system and neighborly relations among counties.
