Clarke-McNary Forestry Act Ignites National Policy

W. B. Greeley chief Forester presents the annual report to the Secretary of Agriculture stressing a national forestry policy for the United States. He notes private forest land of 400 million acres has lacked policy but will supply about eighty percent of future national products.

Forestation Policy and Clarke McNary Act Provisions

The Clarke McNary Act envisions cooperation with states and individuals to fight fires plant on farms teach forestry to farmers study forest taxation and expand public forest land through gifts purchases and reservations. Chief Forester Greeley urges a definite federal program for extending National Forests by purchase and a campaign to cut waste in timber use. National forest receipts exceed 5.25 million dollars in the last fiscal year, derived mainly from the 147 forests.

Christmas Rotary meeting features tree and carols

The Dillon Rotary club met Tuesday due to Christmas. A small tree stood at the head table as Linden McCullough acted as Santa delivering gifts. Rev F X Leschner led talks on the holiday spirit with S E Davis and J J Monroe. A chorus performed yuletide songs. visitors Dr Bimrose and Rev Father Clifford attended.

Former Resident Dies in Pomona California

Edward T. Patrick, longtime Beaverhead County resident who moved to California, died suddenly in Pomona. Born 1872 in Kansas, he worked various jobs and favored real estate. Survived by wife four sons two daughters four brothers and a sister. One son Elza Patrick left for California to attend the funeral.

Trio Plead Guilty to Vagrancy Charges

Three men named Tom Nolan John Riley and Preston Shakespeare were arrested last Monday by the sheriff on vagrancy charges. They pled guilty the next day before Justice Phillips and were sentenced to 20 days in jail as guests of the sheriff. Shakespeare is noted for his height and strong stature.

Happiness on the farm breeds resilient city kids

W G Gilbert is vice president of the First National Bank and has worked with H G Rodgers on the bench. His brother served as county attorney and was re elected last fall.

Gwendolyn Caswell, twenty two, of Chicago, was mute until an airplane nosedive revived her speech. She expressed gratitude to the pilot for risking the drop that restored her ability to speak.
