Graduation Held for Collegians at Normal College
Twelve students completed work at the end of the 1938 autumn quarter and received diplomas during a Wednesday morning assembly at the Normal college auditorium. The program featured the Little Symphony orchestra and several glee clubs. Diploma recipients include Russell James Bay and Frances Hayes among others, with five earning Bachelor of Education degrees and majors in social studies English music fine arts science mathematics and industrial arts. Most graduates plan teaching positions or further study, eight were born in Montana, and Donald Rex Roberts will enter the University of Washington graduate school this winter.

County Agricultural Committee Elected And 1939 Program Notes
J C Ferguson of Reichle was re elected chairman of the county agricultural conservation committee. Floyd Kenison Dell. Mark Clemon Jackson Luther Smith and Jack Keenan were named officers and alternates. After the convention the 1938 county committee met to discuss 1939 crop program work sheets due by January 15 1939 and soil depleting acreage allotments. Operators may file notices to adjust allotments and payments on the 1938 crop program are being prepared with signings to come.

Beav erhead County High School building to be replaced
Contracts awarded for a new Beaverhead County High School facility to replace the 1904 main classroom building and 1914 gym. Cahill and Mooney of Butte won the general contract at 220 994 dollars, with Northern Plumbing and Heating of Denver and Western Plumbing and Electric of Spokane handling plumbing and electrical work. Demolition is included, with sound equipment bids rejected and wage increases under PWA boosting costs by over 10 000 dollars.

The Gilmore and Pittsburg Railroad will cease operations May 1 1939 between Armstead Montana and Salmon Idaho and between Leadore and Gilmore Idaho. President W N Bichler said the company will be without funds to continue operations in May 1939.

Lockhart Sentenced One Year For Grand Larceny
James Lockhart pleaded guilty before Judge Henry G. Rodgers in district court to grand larceny and received a one year term in the state penitentiary. Authorities say he stole automobile tires and equipment in the Big Hole basin last summer and he was taken to Deer Lodge last Thursday by Sheriff Paul Temple. W. F. Maynard faced first degree assault when arraigned before Judge Rodgers that morning.

Dillon Girl Wins Beautician's Contest
Miss Helen Wheat of Dillon won first place at the Montana state convention of beauty operators for the most perfect model. The event showcased living models styled by state beauticians, a feat she also accomplished last year in Missoula. Wheat, a Dillon High and Salt Lake beauty school alumna, works in a Missoula parlor.

Beaverhead Ranch Man Samuel Howell Dies at 14
Samuel Burton Howell died at home on Beaverhead ranch after several months illness. Born Oct 28 1864 in Canada, he lived in Kansas and Butte before moving to Beaverhead County in 1906. Survived by wife Maude, daughter Sylvia Meade Dillon brother James Howell and nieces. Funeral Saturday 2 pm Masonic hall with Knights Templar escort and Blue Lodge burial details.

Former Dillon Woman Dies In Coast City
Mrs. Margaret Curran Curran, Tacoma grade school superintendent and former Montana State Normal College director of teachers training, died last week in a Tacoma hospital. She taught in Oregon and Washington, served as rural teacher and county superintendent, and later held Tacoma and western Washington education roles. Curran was a Cheney Normal graduate and earned a Teachers College Columbia administration and supervision degree.

Eleven members of the Butte Independent basketball team were arraigned on a disturbance charge after a late Friday fight in the Circle. Four pleaded guilty and were fined five dollars each. others were released on bonds and hearing set for Tuesday. Names listed include Robert Paul and Walter Smith among others.
