Death of Joseph C. Metlen Remains Local Classic Figure
Joseph C. Metlen owner of the Metlen hotel in Dillon died at his hotel from kidney cancer after a year long illness. A prominent Beaverhead County figure, he had served as territorial sheriff and later county treasurer. He and his wife Mrs. Metlen were active in Masonic and Odd Fellows lodges. Interment was at Mountain View Cemetery after a large funeral at the Masonic hall.

Pastor to undergo operation for gall stones in Salt Lake City
Rev Dr A B Martin pastor of the Presbyterian church has been seriously ill for two weeks and will be taken to Salt Lake City tonight for a gall stone operation. Earlier plans to travel last Friday were abandoned as he improved but his condition worsened and doctors now say the life-saving surgery is necessary. Mrs Baker accompanies him to Salt Lake.
