Eleven Students Earn Diplomas at Two Year Course

A Wednesday assembly awarded diplomas for the two year program. Music featured Brahms Wiegenlied, Harris Sing We and Chant It, Mitchell Lost in London Town, Renich Salutation of the Dawn, Wilson Over the Foaming Wave. Thirty-one new members joined the Women’s Athletic Association as initiates with a Christmas program and refreshments.

Dry Goods Stores Open for Christmas in Dillon

Dillon merchants dealing in dry goods and clothing will stay open evenings starting next Saturday until 8 o'clock through Christmas Eve. Postmaster Harry J. Andrus notes a rise in Christmas mail and moves the general delivery window to the north lobby window to speed deliveries while other windows handle packages.

Lima shooter wins Montana flyer championship at Sheridan

William Gleed of Lima captured the Montana flyer championship at Sheridan with 21 of 76. Dillon Gun Club members Ted Renfro Pete Westergaard Jack Keenan Darrell Everett and Dell participated while Herman Peterson the previous year’s winner from Dillon did not compete being in California. Nick Birrer of Sheridan won the misg and out event.

Mining District Veterans Set Date for Legion Convention

The American Legion mining district convention is scheduled for Saturday January 16 with George Baker announcing the city hosting. Posts from Butte Anaconda Deer Lodge Phillipsburg Whitehall Wisdom Sheridan Helena and Bridges are expected. Committee members P E Gilbert BE L Fairbanks and Alex Tait coordinate with district commander Fred Lehn of Butte to finalize plans.

Popular Young Couple Weds at St Rose Church

Miss Margaret Doyle daughter of Mr and Mrs James Doyle of Centennial valley became bride of Joseph Roe son of Mr and Mrs E H Roe of Bedrock at St Rose Catholic church last Saturday. Rev F X Lechner officiated. The couple plan to reside in Bedrock after a California wedding trip. Mrs Roe is a Montana State Normal College graduate and bookkeeper at Montana Mercantile. Mr Roe is Beaverhead High School graduate and ranching partner with his father.

Fathers And Sons Hold Annual Meet

The Dillon PTA hosted the annual father and son party at the high school gym last Friday. A large crowd attended and voted the event one of the most enjoyable in years. Dads and sons played a basketball game with the youngsters wearing hip boots. T. Lee McCracken spoke on Honesty. Robert Whitsett provided music, Arthur Christensen gave a Swedish reading, and group singing was led by Herbert P. Kakuske. Refreshments concluded the evening.

Rotary Boxing Night Delights Dillon Club Members

Dillon Rotary members enjoyed boxing bouts at a Monday meeting staged by Normal College mixers. Main event featured Francis Johnson versus Luke Dyche with other quick bouts. Bergeson reported Beaverhead Rock dam progress while a letter praised Bik Creek CCC camp for installation work.

Banded Duck Shot by Dillon Hunter

An inquiry reply from the U S Department of Agriculture notes a Mallard killed by Al Lohr on October 18. Bird band No 36-707049 was banded 1-21-36 in Meade County Kansas by Frank W Robl. The letter urges continued reporting of banded birds to aid migratory waterfowl research.

Champion typist demonstrates at city high school

World champion Miss Giaconda Zampano, winner of the international title by typing 106.7 words per minute for 15 minutes, visited the city with Troy Evans of McKee Printing. She demonstrated 145 wpm with familiar copy, a Granite High School graduate from Salt Lake City.

Helen Gelhaus Dies in Butte After Illness

Miss Helen Louise Gelhaus died early Friday after pneumonia following major surgery at Murray hospital in Butte. A Beaverhead County native born February 16, 1898, she lived in Dillon since 1906 and is survived by her father Joan Gelhaus, two sisters and a brother. Funeral held at St Rose Catholic Church with interment in Mountain View cemetery.

Oxygen Tent Installed at Barrett Hospital

An oxygen tent, a recent medical aid, has been installed at Barrett hospital. Funded by the local American Legion auxiliary, it already shows value. Dillon organization will sponsor a March dance to raise funds for the equipment, with Mrs. Glen Lyon leading the rehabilitation committee.

City League Hoop Quintets Announced

Six teams will start a city league basketball series on January 7 at the Normal college gym. Teams include Coast-to-Coast Stores Gosman Drug Eliel's Westwood CCC camp and Normal Pups pending roster announcements. A Kugler jewelry trophy will be awarded to the winning quint.

Christmas Lights Brighten Dillon Streets This Season

Clusters of colored lamps adorn downtown lamp posts, the city hall, and a large star on Idaho street wall. Businesses such as Hartwig theatre and Grand hotel, plus a community Christmas tree, add holiday splendor as residences decorate with garlands.

Neighbors elect Royal Neighbors officers in regular meeting

At a Royal Neighbors session in the I O O F hall Lucille Hartwig is named head and officers elected for the year including Marian DeLadd and Wilma Holloran. Dr. W Stephan and Dr Geo Routledge named physicians. Gertrude Lyon elected delegate with Mary Molleur as alternate to the state camp in April. A Christmas tree party and gift exchange planned with 25 cent limit.

Vets Boost Quota At December Meet

A Legion meeting at city hall drew over 40 local members with visiting mining district officers Fred Lehn Bion Hall and J H Millecam. The membership drive swung from 44 43 to 53 49 with 102 total, nearing last year's record. Plans cited include a Mining District convention around January 23 and a Purple Bubble Ball by the Elks.
