Under the public ity committee Dillon area leaders plan a promotional folder for summer tourists and Normal students. It will feature highway maps, local attractions, livestock, agriculture and mining prominence, recreation, and historic sites with distribution planned for late February.
Graduation exercises were held for seven diploma candidates and two degree candidates at State Normal College. Professor Robert Clark delivered the class address, reflecting on Horace Mann’s century old contributions to education. Diploma recipients include Eleanor L. Barney, Della M. Barrett, Ruth E. Fridley, Mary Ellen McCormack, Jane F. Marston, Charles Osborne, and Anne Amelia Rowe. degree recipients include Eleanor S. Catlon and Ethel Jarussi.
Twenty eight members of the forest department and their wives attended a no host dinner at the K D Flock home on Saturday evening to honor Mr and Mrs Lester Robbins of Wisdom newlyweds. Mrs Robbins is Miss Margaret Rickett Kalispell daughter of a former Methodist pastor. Robbins is the assistant forest ranger at Wisdom. The house was decorated with evergreen bows and red.
Washington dispatches report J Samuel Freeman Jr of Dillon obtained the first five year grazing lease under the Taylor Grazing Act for 1002.28 acres of public domain. Previously the General Land Office issued only one year licenses, making this the initial long-term lease in the United States.
Beaverhead Post of the American Legion reports a new high in advance membership with 62 signed for 1938. The Bucks led by C. J. Horren trail the Buck Privates by a narrow margin as the drive continues to Christmas. Legion supervisors will aid municipal skating rink. Elks charity ball set for Saturday at city hall. playgrounds and juvenile recreation discussed with Principal Conrad Orr and E. L. Fairbanks.
Clarence Fahey a 45 year old World War veteran and ranch hand was found dying in a bunkhouse at the Henry Fitter ranch with a .22 rifle by his side and a head wound. Despondency was given as the cause of death and R Ecrent who shared the bunkhouse awakened by the shot. Fahey born in Glenwood Minnesota is survived by a daughter May Ellen Fahey of Milwaukee three sisters Bessie Serowlski of Milwaukee R P Merrow of Los Angeles and another sister in Minneapolis.
Mrs Anna Drake Spencer announces the marriage of her daughter Mary Drake to Frederick Cobbett Barnett on November 20 at the Church of the Crossroads in Honolulu. Mary, educated in Dillon and Washington, worked in a Honolulu music store and had a promotional trip to New York City. Barnett is employed in Hawaii and they will reside there. De Jensen is wanted in Idaho.
Nine students were inducted into the Chequamegon chapter of Quill and Scroll at a Tuesday high school initiation in the gym. Awards went to Arthur Christensen for editorial writing, Robert Gregg for current news, and to the Beaver staff business manager Frances Pickelick and editor Earl Fairbanks. Faculty sponsor Fay Kirkpatrick and initiator Genevieve Albertson were acknowledged with gifts.
Dillon merchants stock abundant toys and holiday goods as shoppers anticipate a busy two week period. Stores brim with Yuletide decorations and seasonal merchandise while locals are urged to support home town merchants first to boost the community’s prosperity.
Future Farmers of Beaverhead county high school sponsor their annual Father and Son Banquet at the high school gymnasium on Saturday December 18 at 6 30. Prominent Dillon businessmen and Beaverhead county residents are invited. A Beaverhead Rangers group will furnish music. after the banquet a dance will follow with The Bachelor Club orchestra providing the music. Public invited. admission 25 cents single 40 cents a couple

Harrison and Murray present but refuse comment while editorials note major points: which industries join CIO lines and the fate of the CIO unions within AFL. Both sides depart with no recommendations and vow to report back.
Emil Ludwig, famed biographer, dined with publisher Bernarr MacFadden in Manhattan to mark the first Liberty installments of his new work Roosevelt A Study in Fortune and Power. He spoke of recent con- text surrounding his research and forthcoming chapters.
Albert Baker, county clerk and recorder, reports about 1 880 residents have re registered under the new law. The office expects nearly 4 000 voters to cast ballots in the upcoming primary.
The Parent Teachers Association gathered Tuesday at the training school to discuss When the Family Entertains. Mrs. H P Kakuske presided with Mrs T Lee McCracken leading the discussion. several members spoke on favors and home projects while a chorus, piano duet, and Christmas tea highlighted the afternoon.
Dillon Lodge No. 16 A F and A M installed officers after electing A A Schroeder as worshipful master for the coming year. Installation conducted by John T Orr senior grand deacon grove Montana. Willard Shaffner served as marshal. Harris Opp outgoing worshipful master.
W. B. Willey, forest supervisor, returned from a trip into the Centennial valley and Elk lake country. He noted the thermometer fell to 22 degrees below zero Wednesday night and that very little snow has fallen in the area.
Professor Robert Clark of Normal College spoke at the Presbyterian Men's Club monthly dinner held in church parlors Wednesday evening. Hosts Dr. BE Bimrose and Frank McFadden led an elk dinner for members.
Mr and Mrs Tom Connors of Melrose announce the birth of a baby girl named St James. The couple joyfully received the infant at home with family nearby.
Frank Buhrer a 41 year old rancher and stockman of Reichle died at Barrett hospital after a short illness from pneumococcal meningitis He was born July 31 1896 on the Ruhrer ranch near Reichle and lived in the area his entire life He was a World War veteran and member of several lodges and orders He is survived by his wife Genevieve a daughter Mary Louise a son Frank Ernest his mother Mrs Minnie Buhrer two sisters Miss Louise Buhrer and Mrs Charles Burdick and a brother Carl Buhrer Funeral arrangements are pending with the Brundage funeral home
The Montana State Normal College glee club directed by Mr. Arnold Clair performed for the Dillon Rotary club along with a mixed quartet. The program opened with Welcome Primrose and included Let All My Life Be Music Madrigal Roll On Steal Away Icicle Onward March Bridal Chorus, with guests W H Howard and Alan Bradley attending and Dr. W J Romersa presiding.
George Gosman attended a State Board of Education meeting held Monday in Missoula and participated in dedication services for the Montana State University journalism building, a $200,000 project.
Joseph V. Meyrick and Louise Lutz of St. Anthony Idaho wed late Monday afternoon in a courthouse ceremony conducted by Judge George Opp.
