Lt. Gov. F A Hazelbaker placed in several hay divisions at the International Livestock Exposition in Chicago taking second in timothy and mixed timothy with clover and fourth in alfalfa. Governor Erickson attended a seaway summit in Chicago with U S and Canadian officials.
Fred Waldorf chairs Dillon Rotary at Andrus hotel dining room as Y F McFadden city attorney reviews local government proceedings. Topics include taxes expenditures regulations and Dillon affairs. Forest Bayerd city water commissioner outlines the water system and aqua para. City council members and officials attended as honorary guests.
The Dillon Choral club directed by Mrs W G Gilbert has been asked to broadcast a musical program from Station KGIR in Butte. It is planned for the first Sunday in February for one hour. The club will sing Christmas carols on Wednesday evening at 8 o clock at the community tree on the depot lawn.
State officials and employees contributed 20028 dollars to the Red Cross relief fund in Montana. Deputy state auditor Hugh Gaw announced the receipt after reviewing funds received since November.
A horse was killed after a collision south of Barrett hospital when Ernest Nelson failed to swerve around a rut and hit a team driven by a Berg Christensen ranch employee. One horse was injured and had to be shot. Nelson and Karl Walker were uninjured. the wagon was damaged.
A Dillon Rotarians committee led by Norman Henry Roy Forrester J C Jeppson J De We dum and Louis Schmittroth cut a huge evergreen from Birch Creek section and brought it to town for depot lawn display. Lights will decorate it at night as part of an annual Yuletide tradition while merchants decorate windows and lamp posts adding to the festive scene. Christmas shopping begins early with busier stores anticipated.
Bar rett Hospital board of control plans spring work on the grounds surrounding the building. Due to funding limits the project aims to use offers of help and any available funds to plant trees and restore green grass next summer. Citizens are asked to report contributions to Pearl I Smith to record offers of funds labor or assistance.
The county board on Tuesday afternoon named appointments to several boards. W W Hawkins joined the fair association to replace George Opp who resigned. DA Galt and Tom DuBois were reappointed for three year terms. High school board members James N Matsheld and C B Blinn were named to succeed others.
Leonard Eliel a longtime Dillon business man and one of the original townsite company members died at his South Washington street home after a gradual illness. Born in Germany July 4 1847 he traveled west in 1867 witnessing the rise of the transcontinental railroad and the pioneer era that built Southern Montana. He lived a life of service and friendship esteemed by a broad circle of townspeople who recall him as a foundational figure in the community.
Southern Montana mourns the loss of Leonard Eliel, a leading pioneer whose life and work left a lasting impact on Dillon and Beaverhead County. His steadfast integrity and effort to improve business and social life inspired the community and will endure as a heritage shaping local history.

Carl Hansen of Beaverhead county high school won the Union Pacific scholarship for vocational agriculture based on project work leadership and scholarship. Alvin Bay is named alternate with Hansen receiving $100 for a full term at Montana State College and $50 for the short course.
Announcement of a March 1932 national commemoration marking Koch’s discovery of the tuberculosis germ. Mrs Forrest Bayerd, local seal sale chair, reports 2 084 associations will join in ceremonies highlighting Koch’s foundational role and ongoing efforts toward a cure through research at universities.
Mizpah Chapter Order of the Eastern Star held a regular meeting Tuesday evening at the Masonic hall and elected its officers for the coming term. Details of the newly chosen officers were announced to attendees.
Howard Peterson of the Big Hole basin was fined 225 dollars in Judge L P Phillips court after pleading guilty to killing a moose a violation of state game laws. He was arrested near Doolittle Creek with three quarters of moose meat and the hide plus muskrat hides as evidence.
Irkhom's traditional tribute to departed members was observed at the Odd Fellows hall last Sunday as Dillon lodge conducted its annual memorial service. The event featured musical numbers and an address by James I. Kelly praising steadfast principles and citizenship. District Deputy Savage visited Tuesday evening for the annual visit to the Dillon Judge, followed by a banquet at St James guild hall with Exalted Ruler John T. Orr presiding.
Three men, Frank Hunter, Frank Tucker, and another unidentified companion, were arrested near the guild hall by Undersheriff Carl Hartwig after a gas theft from W. W. Hawkins. The suspects were booked by Clonnie Roark and held at the county jail after a failed escape attempt. Local observers say Lambert Elfel and Dr. R. D. Curry reported the incident.
