Death Claims Frank J. Caskin a Dillon Resident

Frank J. Caskin longtime Dillon resident and Dart Hardware plumber died in Rochester Minnesota hospital early Tuesday. Born August 18 1884 in Malone New York he came to Dillon in 1916 and was active in civic affairs and loyal to local clubs. He is survived by his widow two sons Barry and Gerald four sisters and three brothers and his body will return to Dillon likely Thursday night for funeral arrangements. He was a charter member of the Loyal Order of Moose and a member of the Knights of Columbus Malone No 808.

Sheriff Detains Man Driving Truck With Eggs En Route

Sheriff J. A. McCollum arrested a man identified as Pat Ryan from Sacramento who was driving a large truck loaded with eggs. He was forced to obtain a Montana license for the vehicle while en route to Bismarck, North Dakota.

Nelson School P T A Meeting Scheduled for Friday

The Nelson school P T A will meet Friday evening December 7 at 7 30 at the school house. All members are requested to be present. The Riverside Country club meeting has been postponed to Wednesday December 12 and will be entertained by Mrs Ned Saunders.

Scout Training Course Planned in Dillon

The Citizens' Committee of the Boy Scouts of Dillon plans a training course for boys and men 18 and over to improve leadership. Area executive O. E. Hoover will run the course, with a meeting for interested parties in Dillon on Friday December 7 to announce details. Committee members include Dr JAS Meeke We Ce Jeppson and George C Farrell.

Ralph Davis Weds Girl From Bannack

Miss Vnona Tuner daughter of Mr and Mrs Dan Tuner of Bannack became the bride of Ralph I Davis formerly of this city now residing at Bannack where he is employed The ceremony was performed by Rev H J Schmidt pastor of the Presbyterian church Both are well known in the community and have the best wishes of a large circle of friends

Former Beaverhead County Resident Dies in Helena

Beaverhead county residents learned with regret that Mrs. George B. Conway died at her Helena home after a six month illness. Born April 7 1860 in Long Meadows Massachusetts she lived in Indianapolis Glendale Dillon and finally Helena where she resided since 1910. Survived by husband W I Conway five children and a sister she was a member of several fraternal and church groups. Funeral held in Helena with interment there.

Dillon Elks Hold Memorial Service

Memorial services were held Sunday evening at the training school auditorium by Dillon Lodge No. 1554 B P O E in memory of departed members. Superintendent Charles Henry gave the memorial address and Exalted Ruler Francis Gelhaus led the ritual with lodge officers. A string wind ensemble, Choral club quartet, Elks quartet, and vocal soloists provided music. Memorial committee members were W. E. Barry, E. L. Wheat, David Hier, Paul Bramsman and Homer Faust.

During Tuesday’s commissioners meeting James Mansfield and C E Blinn were reappointed to the high school board. The session covered appointments and ongoing oversight of local education governance.

Football men guest of Dillon Rotary dinner

Beaverhead county high school and Montana State Normal college football squads were guests at the Dillon Rotary Club annual dinner at the Mellen hotel. About 180 attendees heard praise for coaches and players, with notes on fair play, community support, and the value of athletics in character building.

District Court Postponed to January 14

Judge Lyman H. Bennett announced the winter term of the district court is postponed from December 3 to January 14 at 10 a.m. Jurors for the former date are told not to appear until 9:30 a.m. January 14. One set case listed is State v Samuel Hayden for murder. List of summoned jurors includes names from Dillon, Wisdom, Lima, Grant, Armstead, Lakeview, Wise River, and Jackson.

Dillon Resident Riley Chapman 86 Dies After Long Illness

Riley Chapman, 86, died at the county farm last Thursday after a lingering illness. A New York native, he had lived in Dillon for about 80 years and had resided at the county farm since 1915. Funeral services were held Friday from the Brundage chapel.

T. K. Julson Remembered as Pioneer Dillon Mechanic

T. K. Julson, longtime owner of Dillon's first automobile garage, died Monday evening after a month of illness. Born 1872 in Holingdal Norway, he moved to Dillon in 1907 and built a noted repair shop. He leaves three children Margaret Lev Bertha May and Donald all of Dillon and a sister Mrs Milo French of Seattle. Funeral Wednesday at 10 30 from Brundage Funeral Home with Rev I X Leehner of St Rose officiating and burial at Mountain View.

Quiet Thanksgiving Observed in Dillon Communities

Thanksgiving passed quietly in Dillon with family gatherings around holiday boards featuring turkeys and other fowl. Union services at Grace Methodist drew congregations from local churches, led by Rev. J A Meeke and Rev. H J Schmidt, with devotions by Miss Ayers. Football fans traveled to nearby towns for games, while the city hall hosted the volunteer fire department ball for a large crowd.

Dillon’s basketball study club discusses out-of-bounds and rulings

The Dillon high school group met Monday night from 7 15 to 8 15 with Carl Olson leading a session on complicated out-of-bounds plays three second late rulings and front and back court rulings. Attendees included Carl Olson W J Bierrum Herbert Kakuske Carl Ross Byron Sandborn W W Wahl Dr L F Williams Bill Draper Donald Campbell Cetil Musburger and the public is invited to attend the meetings.

Legion Show a Sprightly, Tuneful Revival Draws Praise

A well received American Legion annual show at the training school auditorium delighted a large Tuesday night crowd with acts ranging from a “We're in the Army Now” sketch to vaudeville numbers. A last minute curtain change featured the Rocky Mountain Rangers in place of the original act, and a larger audience returned Wednesday praising the performance as more finished. The cast list includes Ruth Phelps, Betty Hirst, Stella Lee, and many others in dances, songs, and sketches, with school groups and local clubs contributing multiple acts.

Home Demonstrator Completes Beaverhead Course

Miss Lillian Stone, Beaverhead county home demonstration agent, finished a three month course in the county and returned to Bozeman. She organized home demonstration clubs in Dell Lima Armstead Bannack and a home makers club in this city. Demonstrations were held at Nelson Dewey and Wise River and a 4 H club formed at Dell. Supple- mentary programs are set for December January February and March as she plans to return in April to continue her work. Forty four meetings were held during the assignment.
