Ground is Broken for New Federal Building Project
Roger B Mead of Mead Construction of Denver arrived to plan the site work for the new federal building. Excavation began on the site midweek after Lester Bourquin of the city received the contract. Construction foreman C Weidenheimer, also from Denver, arrived with Mrs Weidenheimer. The contract sets 250 calendar days from the official notice of award for completion.

Crude box with bones found near city during pipeline work
Workmen digging for an oil pipeline support near the Texaco plant north of the city unearthed a box containing bone fragments resembling human remains. The incident echoes a 30 year old find by Carl Mast during highway construction in the same area when six skeletons were moved to Mountain View cemetery. Local lore recalls an early cemetery on Cornell hill south of Dillon and Mountain View’s later establishment.

Water Users Irrigation stockholders meet to discuss canal plan
All stockholders and interested persons are invited to a meeting and picnic on Monday September 2 at the west fork of the Maison to discuss a proposed canal from the west fork into the Centennial valley. Engineers say the canal would supply 15000 to 25000 acre feet for the Lima reservoir and decisions may fund the project through the Montana Water Conservation board or stockholders. Attendees should bring lunch and depart Dillon at 7 30 a m for a noon meal.

WPA Projects Must Be Submitted Now
Beaverhead County commissioners have telegrams from WPA administrator Ray Hart demanding immediate project submissions. All applications must be filed in Helena by next Tuesday with the latest possible date in Washington Sept 12. To cover potential rejections sponsors should send in twice as many projects as needed to employ people for one year. With federal relief funds ending Nov 1 counties that fail to secure WPA aid will have to support residents on local funds.

A telegram from Senator Wheeler reports President Roosevelt signed the Works Progress Administration allotment for three Montana counties including Beaverhead. It is believed the water conservation projects, such as a Medicine Lodge dam and Sheep Creek basin work, are designated. An $80,000 dormitory improvement loan for the State Normal College may also be added.

Walter Nettik, 16, son of Mr and Mrs Mike Nettik of Dillon, lies in Bar rett hospital in critical condition with possible skull fracture and chest injuries after a galloping horse struck him as he ran across the rodeo track Saturday. Dead Porcupine Sparks Multivehicle Wreck Near Glen
A dead porcupine on the Birch Creek crossing south of Glen led to a three car collision. Mrs. Hortense McLeod was injured with a broken nose and taken to Barrett hospital. Sheriff James McCollum reports a chain of evasive moves after the porcupine sighting caused vehicles to crash and bruise.

Beaverhead post commander elect Guy D. Combes and Post District Commander E. L. Fairbanks returned from the state Legion convention in Anaconda reporting a successful gathering of veterans and auxiliary members. Earle N. Early Day Dillon Woman Called
Mrs. Harry Rash died August 10 in San Francisco after a long illness. Born February 17, 1870 in Hayesville Iowa, she moved with her family to Dillon Montana as a child, lived there to adulthood, marry, and later resided in San Francisco for eight years. She leaves her husband two daughters several sons in San Francisco and a son Harry Jr. in Monida Montana. The community notes her death with regret and says the funeral was held in San Francisco.
