Henry Thompson a leading Montana ranchman dies at his Dell area home after a lingering illness. Born June 27 1852 in Lima Michigan he built a broad ranching empire and aided Beav erhead as a livestock center earning wide esteem among friends and communities. Continued on page eight.

Two Fined on Charges of Traffic Violation
Arnold Smith and L Provan were arrested last Friday evening by police on charges of driving under the influence. They pleaded guilty at a police court hearing before Judge Phillips and each received a $50 fine. Smith admitted driving his Ford pickup into two parked cars in front of the Andrus fountain owned by W. B. Hartwig and Frank Bulger.

Picnic Draws Record Crowds in Beaverhead County
The Glen picnic Sunday, organized by the Butte Eagles, attracted an estimated five thousand from Dillon and elsewhere. Lt. Gov S A Hazel baker and Attorney J Bruce Kremer spoke, with races boxing and sports on the program. Winners included Marjorie Kellum and Walter French among several children, and Mrs Frank Bell won the rolling pin throw.

Adventurous Canoists Conquer Salmon River Trek
Roy Forrester and Louis Suhmiltroth completed a six day journey down 137 miles of the Salmon River from Shoup to Riggin in a small canoe. They endured extreme heat, numerous rapids, and a forest fire swept region, filming 3800 feet of moving pictures and 40 stills. The pair reported no injuries but would not attempt the voyage again in a small boat.

Prominent Jackson Rancher James Pinkerton Dies in Utah
James Pinkerton longtime Big Hole basin rancher died after weeks of illness in a Logan Utah hospital last Sunday. He moved west as a youth from Illinois where he was born 65 years ago and settled in the Big Hole area. His body was brought to Dillon for a funeral at Brundage chapel with Jackson lodge Odd Fellows in charge and burial at Mountain View cemetery. Surviving are two sons James and Reginald of Butte a daughter Mrs Barry of Butte and two brothers Charles of Jackson and another brother unnamed as read in the notice.

County Fair Features Prize Livestock At Dillon
Livestock men across the northwest show increasing interest in Dillon Montana's county fair. Entries are being received as the event on September 22 moves toward a major livestock and entertainment feature. The fair includes private sales, races, rodeo stunts, and the Pacific Coast shows. Ted Renfro of Dell placed second in the Grand American Handicap at Vandalia Ohio, losing a shoot-off to Joe Hiestand after both hit 198 in regulation. Steve M Crothers of Chestnut Hills Pa won the title with 200 and broke 200 straight targets to secure victory.
