Tragic Butte Boy Dies After Park Picnic Drinking Spree

A inebriated 11 year old from Butte, John Hughes, was killed when he fell from a train car near Dillon after a Selway park picnic. The coroner's inquest exonerated the railroad and urged action against liquor sales to minors in Beaverhead County.

Dillon Volunteers Organize City Fire Department

A meeting at city hall organized the Dillon Volunteer Fire Department with Mayor B F White presiding. Al Gruwell named chief and Frank Birrer assistant chief, with a full slate of officers and a rules committee. Regular meetings set for the first Thursday each month at city hall and uniforms expected from the council.

Word reached attorney J B Poindexter that the secretary of the interior in Washington DC decided in favor of the Cornell plaintiff in the two year old Kent desert land contest. The ruling affirms lower court decisions and ends the matter.

Stockholders meeting for the new creamery project reports five thousand six hundred dollars subscribed and plans to incorporate on Thursday August 26. Delta Lodge No. 15 Knights of Pythias of Lima Montana adopted condolence resolutions for Oscar K. Paul and draped their charter for 60 days. A warrant was issued for Edward Kelly accused of raping 75 year old Grandma Neilson in Dillon, with police and sheriff actions described as a search and investigation.

Both Men Face Possible Leg Amputations After Injuries

Harry Wells and Charles White, both badly injured with compound leg fractures, remain in serious condition. Wells was hurt on July 4 while jumping from a float and may lose his leg. White was injured when a hay wagon overturned on a Madison county ranch and also faces possible amputation.

Hunter Kills Cinnamon Bear Near Elkhorn Springs

Curt Harrison killed a large cinnamon bear during a camping trip at Elkhorn Springs after the animal climbed onto his wagon seat and woke him. He crippled another which fled with two cubs. both cubs escaped. Campers Elliott, Eph Stoller, and Mrs Madison witnessed the incident and returned to Dillon frightened. Harrison reports seeing many bears in the surrounding hills.
