Beloved Centennial Matron J A Jones Dies at Ranch
Mrs. J A Jones known as Grandma Jones died at her Centennial valley ranch after a lingering illness. She turned eighty on March 29 and lived in the valley 39 years with her husband who ran a large ranch. They observed their sixtieth wedding anniversary recently. Surviving are her husband five sons and five daughters including CG I Jones A A Jones W P Jones Julia Hart Matilda Miller Emma Neighbor Rachel C Jones Addie Ries and numerous grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the ranch by Rev H N Trapitt of St James Episcopal Church with interment at Jones Cemetery in Centennial valley.

Nine transients jailed for disturbing the peace on liquor
A county jail record shows nine men, all transients, were lodged on charges of disturbing the peace while under the influence after a river road crash near town. Five arrested earlier received 30 day sentences after guilty pleas before Judge Opp. Names include James Sullivan and Herbert Gallagher among others.

Nolan Brothers win Montana oil surfacing contract
Nolan Brothers of Minneapolis secure the oil surfacing contract for a 45 mile Armstead to Monida stretch as part of 17 Montana Highway Commission projects totaling about a million dollars. Bid valued at 133,899.39 dollars with completion set for June 30, 1933. Local labor preference expected under federal relief funds. Beaverhead county will gain an oil surfaced highway across its breadth.

Dillon Elks Named to State Committees
KE L Wheat secretary of the Dillon lodge was named to the social and community welfare committee and J Leonard Innes exalted ruler was placed on the grand lodge committee by new president Arthur J Baker. The Wheat party stopped in Livingston where a touring group later took a spare tire from their car after a roadside stop.

Dillon Man Sentenced After Guilty Plea to Third Degree Assault
James Jenkins received a 90 day county jail term after pleading guilty to third degree assault. He was arrested earlier when subdued with tear gas in a Kentucky Avenue house after allegedly flourished a gun and threatened relatives. Dillon Masons including John T. Orr and Judge I G Rodgers traveled to Helena for Montana grand lodge sessions.

State Elks Convention Set for Dillon 1933
Mr and Mrs Earl Wheat and Ed Johnson returned from Lewistown with news that Dillon will host the Montana State Elks convention in 1933. Local members note their lodge is the youngest in the state and Art J Baker of Lewistown was named president for the coming year with H S Carroll of Kalispell as deputy of the west district. The Missoula band Billings drum corps and the Helena walking club played prominent roles in the Mardi Gras Street carnival entertainment.

Medicine Lodge Rodeo Set for August 27 28
The Medicine Lodge rodeo returns after a two year gap with elaborate plans announced by Garry Geiger and Dick Crawford. The event will be held seven miles west of Armstead on Saturday and Sunday August 27 and 28 featuring Jim Johnson's bucking horses from the Big Hole basin and events such as bronc riding bareback riding calf roping and wild steer riding.

Child Injured After Fall From Tree on East Orr Street
Irma Lou Warner, 12, daughter of Mr and Mrs Harold Warner, fell seven feet from a tree on East Orr street sustaining a facial fracture. She rode home on a tricycle with limited spirits, examined by Dr Routledge, later taken to Barrett hospital for skull fracture relief surgery. She is reported to be making satisfactory progress.

Paul Shafer Found Guilty of Assault
The jury found Paul Shafer guilty of assaulting O K Goble a Centennial Valley rancher with a loaded quirt on July 25 after about ten minutes deliberation. Judge George Opp imposed 90 days in jail and a 500 dollar fine with bond set at 1000 dollars. Rodgers and Collins announced appeal to the district court as Shafer was released. The case stemmed from a neighborhood quarrel over sheep driven onto Goble land and a two day trial with several witnesses.

Three Hall brothers and associate arrested in hotel robbery
Three Hall brothers D C Ralph and John and a man known as Blackie Diamond were arrested in connection with the robbery and beating at the Della week age hotel last Friday. The Hall brothers were taken to county jail after arrests near town and Lima, while Blackie Diamond was released. A hotel employee was wounded by a shot fired during the incident. One suspect allegedly boasted of being a real tough guy.

Four Dillon lads Bill Roland Al Simpson Chester Melton and Warren Stone return home after a three week trip in California and western states. Their Ford was sold for 15 dollars and they bought a Cheviie for the return journey with 20 punctures along the way. They saw boxing great Dempsey in Portland and faced tramp motorist hardships before a bath and new clothes. A Barrett family bridge party added a social close to the week with Nancy Constance Barrett entertaining Ruth Barrett of Butte.

Large Gas Theft Strikes Local Oil Tank
A major gas theft drained about 1 000 gallons from Standard Oil No 1 storage tank in the southern town area near City Fuel company yards. A shattered valve and break in at the pumping house allowed the theft using a gasoline motor to fill tanks. Fingerprints on equipment may help identify the bandits familiar with plant operations.
