County Board of Correction approves tax changes and levies

The county commissioners met in special session as a board of correction. They denied Dolman Mercantile tile company’s request for a $300 assessment reduction and approved increases for Bannack Dredge Co Richard Gallagher Gold Dredge Co Peter Hendrickson Red Rock Salmon City and Gibbonsville Stage Co Robert Selway Butte Meat and Provision Co. A 1899 tax levy was set with General and School Funds at 4 mills each Road Fund 2 mills Bridge Fund 1 1/2 mills Poor Fund 1 mill and Interest and Sinking Fund 1 mill for a total of 18 mills. State taxes total 21 1/2 mills plus several state sublevies. A special poll tax of $2 and a road tax for certain able bodied men were also imposed. An unrelated medical testimony notes Renick Hamilton of West Jefferson Ohio cured Rectal Fistula with Bucklen’s Amia Salve sold by Central Pharmacy.

Attic Expansion at State Normal School For Extra Classrooms

The board approves finishing seven attic rooms at the State Normal building to add five recitation rooms a gymnasium and a meteorological observatory. Changes include enlarged north gable windows dormer windows new lighting and a raised floor in key rooms plus a new access door and altered roof truss. A new auxiliary steam plant will be installed to boost heating capacity and an off site water tank relocation is planned.

Runaway Mower Wreck Nearly Kills Idaho Man

Charles Jones of Idaho sustained severe injuries when a mower team ran away causing multiple fractures to the seventh to ninth ribs and lung laceration with air embolism. He is reported in critical condition but slowly improving under Dr. Reyburn of Barnack and Dr. Jones after air escapes and cauterization treatment.
