Beaverhead County Lowers Tax Levy by Nine Mills
Beaverhead County Montana set the 1928 tax levy at 25.25 mills at a August 18 1928 meeting, down nine mills from 1927. The board adjourned from the board of equalization and opened as county commissioners to levy state and livestock taxes.

Forest fires seen from Dillon threaten vast timber area
Three fires were visible near Dillon last week, none in Beaverhead National Forest. The largest, in Ashbaugh canyon, started Thursday and burned about 500 acres, destroying high elevation timber and range. A Stone creek blaze and smoldering McCarthy mountain fires followed amid dry conditions.

Aged Beaverhead Veteran James McKnight Sr. Passes
James McKnight Sr., a Civil War veteran and longtime Dell resident, died Monday at his son's home near Dell after a long illness. Born June 18 1836 in Evans Landing Indiana he enlisted in the 73rd Illinois Infantry and served through the war. He moved to Missouri after Appomattox before settling in Dell about 1909. He married Martha Elizabeth McGinnis in 1859 and leaves eight children two sisters and a brother. Known as Daddy McKnight he enjoyed baseball and boxing and belonged to Steadman Post No 8 G A R. His body will be sent to Barnard Missouri for burial.

Beaverhead County High School Opens September 4
Beaverhead County High School will reopen for fall and winter terms on September 4. Principal A T Peterson expects higher attendance and says the term should be the most successful yet. The campus has been cleaned up and renovated with new equipment worth about 1000 dollars. Changes in staff include Miss Olive Scholz taking French English and dramatics, and Miss Faye Kirkpatrick teaching English and supervising the school paper.

Three automobile crashes occurred last weekend near Dell and Dillon with only minor injuries. G KE German of Kansas City and Curley Todd sprinted to a settlement after a high speed collision.
