Beaverhead County Fair Dates Set For September 27 30

Beaverhead County Fair dates are announced for September 27 through 30. George Opp succeeds the late S S Carruthers as secretary and new director, bringing familiarity with the office. Plans include farm and dairy exhibits, livestock, home products, school and art displays, plus horse races, stunts, dances, music, and sports. New Poultry Farm Wins Recognition in Dillon

A new enterprise near the State Normal, launched by Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hansen, began in April by purchasing five irrigated acres east of the Normal. They connected to city water and light and planned irrigation ditches, with Harry noted for practical fixes. Continued on Page Seven.

Community Church at Jackson to Be Dedicated Sept. 5

Jackson prepares to dedicate its new community church on September 5 with help from Reverends McLean Brimsstead and Newman of Helena and Rev. W. J. Feeley. The project, eight years in the making, raised 1200 overseen by Mrs. A W Wilson. The building on Main Street will gain a belfry and stucco finish as carpenters move to complete the tower and bell.

MoocHer Sentenced For Mooching By Sheriff Court

John Kitti was arrested Saturday evening by the sheriff's force on a charge of soliciting financial aid from pedestrians. In justice court Monday he pleaded guilty and Judge Phillips sentenced him to 30 days in the county jail.

Local forest officials report extreme dryness in Beaverhead forest and urge careful camp fire practices. Two fires have occurred. one near Gary Creek by lightning was contained at ten acres after firefighter effort, the other started by a smoker was quickly extinguished. Mrs Sidney D Hooker Dies in Helena

The wife of Archdeacon Sidney Douglas Hooker of Helena died at 7 50 Tuesday evening August 10 after a several months illness. The funeral will be held at 10 o clock Friday morning. Remains go to Salem Mass for burial. Born Salem February 11 1856. Friends in Dillon extend sympathy to Mr Hooker former rector of St James church.

Man Arrested in Big Hole Theft Case and Related Notices

Russell Kidd was arrested in the Big Hole basin on Tuesday for car theft tied to Missoula authorities and the recovered Chevrolet was linked to a July 7 theft in Missoula. Kidd faced transfer to Missoula, with deputies noting altered Montana to Washington plates. Also, a water suit in Centennial valley over Tom Creek was filed by Hunt Brothers and Peter F. David against C A Buck. Jose Vangley pleaded guilty to possessing intoxicating liquor and was bound over to district court for sentencing. Deputy Price fined L C Dingley for illegal fishing methods.

Promising Coal Find Reported in Medicine Lodge

Sam Bates and Lawrence Peterson of Lima discovered a forty foot ledge of high grade soft coal in Beaverhead county's Medicine Lodge district. The find has stirred local mining circles and suggests great potential though limited development has occurred.

Beaverhead High School to Open September 7

Beaverhead County High School will open September 7 under Principal A. T. Petreson. Five new teachers join the faculty replacing Schleppergrel Erie Summers Pfiffner and Dean. The music department adds harmony theory courses and band supervision with aims for early uniforms. An improved shop, continued commercial art and salesmanship, and an increased attendance are planned with the girls dormitory retained. Football practice begins in the first week under Coach Gunderson.

The Danish Brotherhood of America Dillon lodge No 273 rents the Hartwig theater for a screening of the film Greater Denmark on August 21 at 8 o clock. The presentation depicts daily life in Denmark and aims to educate both native Americans and Missourians about Danish culture and American assimilation.

Jimmy Trainor Ends Hundred Hour Drive

Jimmy Trainor completes his thirty sixth endurance test driving through rain to Montana Auto at six. A large crowd gathers as he rests in the Sugar Bowl showroom and receives a warm Dillon reception at Dillmont Park. He praises the Chevrolet and thanks local merchants before heading east for new endurance ventures.

Beaverhead County Taxable Value Rises After Decline

Beaverhead County reports its taxable value at 7,228,083 dollars for this year, up 343,227 from last year as recapped by County Assessor Ross W. Emerick. The rise follows years of decline since 1919, driven by land, livestock, and personal property gains, including cattle and sheep valuation increases totaling about 1.1 million dollars, aided by a state board adjustment to Montana Power property.
