Dillon and Beaverhead county residents join 6000 to 8000 attendees at the Sportsmen’s picnic near Drummond. Lt. Gov. Hugh Adair praised wildlife work while Dillon’s Legion team beat Gold Creek 3-2 in 10 innings with Bill Davis scoring on a steal. Beaverhead shooters excel with Herman Peterson second and Pete Westergard third. O Connor of Butte won the trap contest. The annual picnic of the Rebekah lodge will be held next Sunday August 18 at Birch Creek. All Odd Fellows and Rebekahs and families are invited to attend. Picnic lunch at 1 o clock. City Council Reviews 1939 40 Budget and Hires Street Cleaner
At a regular session the council examined the 1939-40 budget and set actions for a special meeting on August 9 to fix the tax levy and make appropriations. The council approved hiring a full time street cleaner at 75 dollars per month to keep the business district clear.

Burr Heraeld Lively 68 a well known mining promoter dies in a Butte hospital after a brief illness He was a native of Granby Missouri moved to Montana as a child settling in Melrose He was involved in contracting and mine promotion in Melrose and the Coeur d Alenes Survived by his wife a son and daughter in law three grandchildren a brother in law and sister two sisters in law and several nieces and nephews Funeral services were held at the Melrose home and burial followed in the local cemetery

Sheriff officers spent a week patrolling Big Hole Basin after two fights led to injuries. Laura Sullivan pleaded not guilty to assault for slashing A M Boyle with a pocket knife during a Friday Jackson altercation. Boyle received hospital treatment and later jail time for disturbing the peace. James Kennedy and William Cunningham clashed at the Claude Lapham ranch with a sickle and knife, Kennedy treated by Dr Poindexter. Cunningham jailed by Sheriff Temple after the noon fight as both men returned from the hay field.

Impressive Rites Mark Beaverhead High School Cornerstone
Beav erhead county high school cornerstone laid in a ceremony under the Montana Grand Lodge A F and A M with attendance from Butte Anaconda Whitehall Deer Lodge Sheridan and Beaverhead county. Oscar Johnson of Anaconda led the rites with R D Curry and others assisting. A sealed box with local papers and community records was placed in the cornerstone.

Pioneer organization forms first meeting for Montana pioneers
A group eligible for membership in the Sons and Daughters of Montana Pioneers met at Miss Jean Bishop's home Thursday. They plan to boost interest among eligibles for the state meeting August 17 to 19 in Butte. Afterward, the local society will be organized and officers elected. Bishop noted about 100 to 200 could qualify, requiring descent from residents of Montana by December 31, 1868.

WPA camp sessions planned at Elk Horn Springs for boys
WPA recreational program heads Dillon announce two Elk Horn Springs camps for boys from August 20 to 27. First session runs August 20 to 24 and second from August 24 or 25 to 27. Cost 2.50 for meals plus pool swimming fees with camp gear, transportation, and tents supplied by parents. A cook will provide meals and activities include games hiking swimming and Scout badge work under appointed leaders.

Repairing of City Power Lines Started
Montana Power began rehabilitating Dillon’s entire street and alley distribution system. Manager Edwin R. Buck said eight linemen will rebuild lines and equipment after acquiring the Union Electric franchise. The program includes pole work, line inspection, and removing obsolete gear, plus improving radio reception by eliminating leaky wires and interference. Cooperation with homeowners aims to prune trees and remove radio trouble spots.

Government Films Preview New Educational Grazing Film
A government photography crew directed by Charles McDonald works with Beaverhead and Madison county stockmen on a grazing documentary for the United States Forest Service. The crew, including William R.
