C H Martin, born in Eastern Montana, pleaded guilty to forging Dick Gallagher's name on a $25 check and cashing it via Phil Thorpe. He served in the US Navy aboard the Ohio with near perfect conduct. He received a one year sentence from Judge Callaway after expressing remorse and asking for mercy.
W H Rideout reports Geo Benton, a renowned prospector, found a bleached skull near an old prospect hole at the head of Ruby Creek’s west fork in the Big Hole basin. A single bone, ore, a six to teeth skull, a rotted pick stamped Beile Bros, and a possible fatal blow point to a death in a long-ago dispute between two men. The scene suggests two prospectors quarrelled, one killed the other, and fled, leaving ore and tools behind in a remote spot unknown to settlers.
Robert Souht pleaded guilty to grand larceny before Judge Callaway and received a one year penitentiary term. The case stemmed from an old watch allegedly stolen during a drunken episode. witnesses placed Souht with the watch and attempting to sell it. Souht claimed Peterson gave him the watch and urged him to sell it to fund the drunk.
Judge Callaway convened the regular August term in Dillon with no jury present. Several defendants pled guilty to criminal offenses and were sentenced to the penitentiary while civil cases proceeded. A water decree in Dingley versus State Bank of Dillon set allocation at 35 inches at the ditch head and 30 near Beaverhead River bridge.
The Republican state convention will be held in Helena on Thursday September 17 to name presidential electors and a full state ticket. Beaverhead County Fair association announces the Nat Reiss Carnival company will perform five days during fair week starting Tuesday September 8 at the fairgrounds. The show features a 250 performer troupe, a one ring circus, 16 side shows, a 20 musician brass band, and daily free acts including trapeze and midair looping.
Two Dillon men George Hughes and Charles Sassman plan a raid on the famed Silver Tip bear blamed for many livestock killings in Bloody Dick country over six years. A resident sparked the effort, recalling Pat Ward's mountain lion tale as a cautionary note while the hunting season nears.

Eight men employed this summer with treasury stock sold to fund development.
A new large traction engine and 12-plow gang outfit arrived in Dillon, the third to reach Beaverhead County in 12 to 18 months for farming use. George R. Featherly and John Banks own the latest unit, a 32 horsepower Reeves engine with 16 inch plows, capable of 40 acres a day. They plan extensive grain work and custom plowing, aided by a new separator from Poindexter & Orr. Rev Colver spoke at the Baptist church’s first Sunday services, delivering notable sermons.
