Smelter Under New Management Runs Smoothly at Birch Creek

Birch Creek Aug 5 The smelter under new management has run smoothly after a brief coke shortage caused a temporary shutdown. Mrs. Thomas wife of Wim Thomas foreman of the Indian Queen mine arrived from Butte to establish residence here. J B Ball was in Dillon on business Monday.

Real estate swap in Jackson shapes new future owner

Jackson Aug 1 George Quinn of Dillon has bought the Hotel de Wadams for about 5000 dollars and plans to settle in the Big Hole. Wadams, called Dune, will move to his mine while awaiting an eastern buyer. Shoemaker, Beaverhead native, is seriously injured in a mine cave in at the Big Hole river head. Quigley has gone to assist and more news will come on his return as haying continues amid poor weather.

Dorland Dill Dorland Married In Virginia City

Rochester notes report the August 1 wedding of A J Dorland and Miss Mary Cayley in Virginia City by N D Johnson. After a torch parade and fireworks, the couple returned home as crowds celebrated and Dorland was toasted at six saloons while well wishes poured in.

Buckwa and Senator Dubois Race Delivers Classic Dillon Duel

A crowd of about 250 watched a close and exciting match race on the Dillon track between Buckwa owned by Tash and Linkersdorfer and Senator Dubois owned by Ted Ellis of Dubois Idaho. The event, sparked by July Fourth Jackson and Wisdom races, drew heavy wagering with at least 5000 spread in bets on the outcome. Jockeys William Dingley and Dad Anderson gave strong performances as Buckwa led early and Dubois edged ahead at the wire in a neck and neck finish. Both horses are praised for their form and speed as plans for a rematch at Twin Bridges with a $2000 side bet loom.

Bondinae Approved Work Begins as Sidewalk Bids Tie

The Dillon council extended the bond deadline for Cusick & Jacobs to 8 p.m. Wednesday and later approved a $20,000 bond after verifying the American Bonding Co. compliance. Motor cars arrive in Dillon prompt townsfolk watchful

A new Oldsmobile owned by Dr. M A Miller arrived in Dillon at the start of the week and drew attention as it moves about. Two more cars reached town this morning for George Metlen and an unnamed owner. The six horsepower light vehicles quicken pace and officials may soon pass speed regulations to manage traffic during the dry season.

The famous northwest scout Calamity Jane Real name Mrs James Burke died at Terry eight miles from Deadwood from bowels inflammation and chose Mount Moriah cemetery beside Wild Bill Hickok. She leaves a possible Denver husband and a daughter living in North Dakota.
