Stockgrowers see signs of returning prosperity in Montana

The Montana Live Stock Growers association wrapped its 389th annual convention in Dillon with optimism for a rebound in the livestock industry. Speakers urged better marketing, dehorned cattle, and stronger organizations while noting improved cattle prices, wool demand, and stable freight rates as evidence of a recovering market.

Ex-Gov Edwin L Norris Dies in Great Falls

Tex governor Norris died this morning in Great Falls. He long lived in Dillon where he practiced law for twenty years before his 1912 term as governor. Born August 15 1865 in Bowling Green Kentucky, he later settled in Great Falls and remained active in law. His Dillon ties included the firm Norris Hurd and Collins with John Collins.

Resolutions Adopted at Montana Stock Growers Meet

Resolutions from the Montana Stock Growers convention finalize aims from rail shipping cuts to grazing fee relief. They commend railroads for service to shippers, seek lower pure bred stock rates, urge uniform cattle assessments, and back Western Tariff Association rate parity with manufactured goods. Two Trainloads of Beef Cattle Shipped Monday

About 1,700 Beaverhead beef cattle were loaded in two trains between Melrose and Armstone on Monday, mostly consigned to Missouri river markets. Buyers paid satisfactory prices with top figure for 170 head loaded at Armstead by Tom Pierce. 69 cars used.

Refinery to Receive 25 Tank Cars at Great Falls

The Sunburst refinery in Great Falls will add 25 tank cars to its inbound capacity. Brady reports that nearly all land in a 16,000 acre tract east of town has been homesteaded.

Melrose Matron Mrs. Elizabeth Vance Dies at 88

Elizabeth Vance, a Montana pioneer and Melrose resident aged 88, died last night after 43 years in the state. She left five sons George Roscoe Edward Sherman and Walter, a daughter Mary Capron. 15 grandchildren. 21 great grandchildren. and four great great grandchildren. Burial will be Friday in Melrose with Rev. May of Dillon officiating. many descendants are expected to attend.

Recital to Feature Music Week at Normal College

Pupils of Miss Ruby Wyatt and an assisting piano instructor at the Normal college will perform in a recital Wednesday evening May 7 at 8 15 in the Training school auditorium as part of Music Week. Wyatt earned honors at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music last spring and has joined the college music department. This marks the first recital by her pupils.
