Eastern firm pursues long oil lease in Beaverhead lands
A New York City based American Coal and Railway Company seeks 25 000 acres for a long term oil lease in the Smallhorn and Dell districts of Beaverhead county. Local figures fear a long lease may favor outsiders but Dr. McDonald of Kalispell favors contracting drilling to a responsible firm to protect local interests. Oil at Alton recently rose shares of the Swift Current Oil Co. and two gold bricks from A J Noyes’ mill delivery are reported as a promising accumulate.

Ajax Mine Promises High Yields as Tramway Starts
George DuCharme, Ajax mine amalgamator and foreman, says ore from the Ajax property averages $10 to $12 per ton with concentrates worth $35 to $42 in gold and lead. He notes thousands of tons in sight, the mill halted by heavy snow, and an aerial tramway due mid summer expected to keep ore moving year round. Development continues with tunnel No. 4 to tap the vein at its lowest point.
