Bishop Brewer to Visit St James Church on Easter

Sugar beet venture eyed for Melrose area
W M Oliver and George Featherly toured Melrose last week to gauge local farmer interest in a sugar beet experiment. Eight to ten prominent farmers agreed to plant half an acre each, with plans for about fifty acres overall. An expert from Salt Lake City is expected April 20 to assist, and seed and beet farming machinery are arriving. Operators expect a factory and a regional boost in land value and wealth if experiments succeed.

Emory Pulver Returns Home After Butte Wound
Emory Pulver, shot in the stomach during a holdup on a Dillon street, returned home from a Butte hospital after weeks of recovery. Sheriff Gist brought Pulver back with a robbery warrant sworn by Henry Cahill. Pulver posted 1000 bond for a preliminary hearing. Cahill, held up at night, fought back and fired. one assailant was shot, Cahill beaten, and two attackers fled. Pulver faces possible trial on robbery charges, based on circumstantial evidence.

Hobos rounded up in Dillon after freight car incident
Thirty nine hobos were seized in Dillon after a box car was taken over on a northbound freight. Police and the undersheriff detained 39 men overnight. most were discharged after hearings as only two faced city ordinance charges, with two others given five days in jail for vagrancy and drunkenness.
