Bonds with final digits 9 0 or 1 mature on April 15 and stop interest afterward. Treasury Secretary Henry Morgenthau Jr offers to swap these called bonds for a new issue paying 8.34 percent over ten to twelve years, sold at a premium. Playground for Children Planned by Organizations
A recently formed children's playground committee met in the courthouse to approve a recreation center on the rear of the Orr mansion. Work to clear and layout the lot should begin soon, with a two week readiness target. Plans include a court for kittenhall and volleyball, sand boxes, and facilities for over 700 children. The Dillon Business and Professional Women’s club sponsored the project. Luella Stickney chairs the executive committee and Mrs Louis Schmittroth is secretary-treasurer. An earlier gathering at City Hall with civic and fraternal groups approved feasibility and broad support.
