The Rio Grande Western Railway previews a new fast schedule linking Montana with all points east and south. Trains feature Pullman palace sleepers and free reclining chairs while passing through Salt Lake City Glenwood Springs Leadville Pueblo Colorado Springs Denver with direct connections to Kansas City Omaha St Louis and Chicago. A line of Pullman tourist sleeping cars runs through to Kansas City Omaha St Louis Chicago and Boston without change.
The Stella passenger steamer en route to the Channel Islands struck the Casquet rocks in dense fog near Alderney. Of 140 passengers and 42 crew, 89 drowned. Lifeboats launched in order, with women and children saved first. The captain perished as the ship sank.

In Beaverhead county district court, Josie Vogan seeks to dissolve marriage to Randolph Vogan for neglect of duty and extreme cruelty. The summons instructs the defendant to answer within twenty days or risk judgment by default. The case references the complaint on file and the March 1, 1899 seal of the court.
