First Sergeant Virden Writes from Manila Front

From Manila March 5 a letter from Charles Virden describes frontline life with the 8th Army Corps. He notes grim fighting, poor shots by the enemy but brave actions, heavy trench work, and a desire to return home once the trouble subsides. Presbyterian manse appeal spurs strong commitments

The Manee Erection committees, led by Prof. J. E Monroe, organized sub committees for soliciting and planning with A. B. Rife and John Shively among members. The Christian Endeavor society pledged 100 dollars, the Manse society 50, Sabbath school 10, as subscriptions grow. A Sunday service will be held at 12 15 p m with no preaching due to the pastor's absence, and a sermon on humble service follows John 13 1 17 highlighting the spirit of service.

Undersheriff Moore interrupted a jail break plot by Gordon the crook and a Lima man serving 60 days for disturbing the peace. Mysterious light at sea baffled three steamers near buoy

Prince of Monaco narrated a beacon mystery in the Bay of Biscay. A buoy illuminated by an electric line drew three steamers off course while a fourth vessel narrowly avoided collision. The episode ended with the prince abandoning visible displays on busy routes.
