Dillon columnist James Kirkpatrick laments overplanted trees in town causing root and branch damage. He urges thoughtful planting and proper care while listing hardy varieties and local examples. He also jokes about a boy with a pocketknife defacing saplings and suggests firm measures.
The funeral of Thomas Gilespie Davidson known as Scotty was held Monday at 5 p.m. at the Brundage chapel with Rev. Philip J. May officiating and interment in Mountain View cemetery. Born in Yadlee Millknowe Scotland on September 21 1858 he came to the United States in 1882 and Montana in 1886. He had lived in Beaverhead county about 20 years and worked for ranchers in Horse Prairie and Medicine Lodge. his death at the Metlen hotel Saturday afternoon was due to heart trouble. He leaves many friends across the county.
Pauline Pahnish died at her Grasshopper ranch after a paralytic stroke. Funeral services were held at the ranch and burial took place in Bannack cemetery. She had lived on the Grasshopper 43 years with husband’s stock raising enterprise and is survived by seven children.
Andrew Maickel a pioneer rancher of Jefferson valley died suddenly on the north bound Oregon Short Line train near Dillon. He and his wife and son were traveling from Los Angeles to Harrison Montana for the funeral of their wintering. The body was moved to Brundage mortuary and then to Harrison where the funeral was held. Maickel was one of the first settlers in Jefferson valley and owned extensive ranch lands and was a leading figure in Harrison.
Catherine Wolfe 71 a longtime Dillon resident died at her Berthoud Colorado home last Tuesday after a period of illness. Her two children John Wolfe and Mrs Catherine Burtch traveled from Dillon to Colorado to attend the funeral, shocking many friends here.
Negotiations began to secure a right of way for an automobile drive along the east shore of the Missouri river from First Avenue to Tenth Street, Great Falls.
Postponement of the Dillon stock show and auction due to foot and mouth disease fears follows Western states actions. Montana Stockgrowers Convention and Montana Woolgrowers meet in Dillon on April 24 and 25, with expected strong attendance and high importance noted by organizers Frank Eliel S. E. Davis and I. S. Gimble, Secretary.
Frank Hazelbaker urges doubled efforts to promote the convention and Wool Growers' meeting after the Stock Show postponement. He notes strong interest from across the region, including out-of-state show herds, and stresses Beaverhead has much to gain by a united boost for the event.
Money already in Helena banks disposes of the state educational bonds and clears the way for building additions at the Normal college campus including a library a gymnasium and a heating plant. Dr. S. E. Davis says the fund arrived last week and work may start soon. The college share was set at 200000 by the state board last year. Ragged Point well work will begin soon as plans proceed.
The first shoot of the season will be held Sunday April 6 with hunting of coyotes hawks owls magpies crows kingfisher and squirrels scored. Participants must register with 25 cent entry to Henry Deutsch Hiram Brundage Roy Worrester and meet at City Hall 7 pm with trophies for tally.
Beaverhead County could form a poultry association to boost quality and profits. The piece notes Dillon fancier Martin Innes and tailor Fred Pascoe with prize White Leghorns and Wyandottes, urges locals to organize a show next fall, cites 21 Montana associations formed last year, and lists potential contacts including Yale Waterman and Lee R. Light.
W. M. Bucy of Lima attended to business matters here in the middle of the week. James E. Kelly prominent attorney of this city departed today for Helena where he will spend several days.

The group backs cooperative marketing and the National Wool Warehouse, endorses joining the Montana Wool Co operative Marketing Association, and condemns rising federal grazing fees.
