A Bedrock Valley livestock association meeting in Dell adopted new wage scales for ranch hands and herders. Herders will be paid 50 dollars per month including lumber, ranch hands 40 dollars with a 50 dollar cap for professional irrigators, effective April 1. The Eat More Lamb club meeting in Dillon was moved to April 14.
The jury in Judge George Opp's court acquitted Charles Benson Ted Kuberich Le Matelick and Chis Mi Ikoviteh of fishing violations on the Beaverhead river. They were arrested by deputy state game warden Charles Price.
William Jacobson reported his Star sedan stolen from Banvidek street parking on Thursday. The car was recovered Sunday at George Reid ranch near Twin Bridges after an unknown man towed it up the road. Sheriff Orr notified by Mr. Reid. This is the second theft and recovery for the Jacobson vehicle.
J. H. Gilbert and H. M. Brundage were nominated to succeed themselves on the District 10 school board at a Saturday evening caucus.
Ewing B. Combs longtime Beaverhead county resident died at Barrett hospital shortly before 1 pm Thursday after arriving from California in poor health. He worked as an electrician for Union Electric then P and O line, winters in California, survived by three sisters Fratie Stone Barnesett and Elizabeth Bernin. He belonged to Dillon Lodge No. 16 A F and A M and funeral will be held under the lodge auspices at a later time.
The Rev. and Mrs H N Tragitt and family plan a motor trip next week to Missouri to visit the couple's son and daughter in law. The rector will then take a train to Washington D C for an appointment at the College of Preachers a unit of the National Cathedral. The College aims to maintain and develop preaching. Rev D Hooker will reside at the rectory for the last two Sundays in April.
Principal W. W. Wahl announced Coach Brick Breeden, previously director of athletics at Beaverhead County High School, will coach both the high school and Montana State Normal College next year. He will devote all time to coaching and will teach no subjects, with athletics classes held all day Tuesday and Thursday at the high school.
The Montana Automobile Association begins its informal push for Referendum Measure No. 35 to let the highway commission issue $1.5 million in construction warrants annually for four years. The measure, submitted by the last legislature, will appear on the May 6 ballot. Dave Salyerds leads the campaign, succeeding A. J. Protretlin as secretary.
Pupils of the GB presented two plays The Royal Toy Mender and The Enchanted Garden under Miss Myrtle Savidge and Miss Katherine Van-Noy. The event drew large crowds as the high school Philharmonic orchestra performed and Miss Alta May Fidler offered piano selections.
Rev T J Simons leads Easter program at the Presbyterian Church with morning worship at 11 and Sunday school at 10. Miss Jean Bishop directs church activities. notable offerings include Easter drama by Rev Simons and Miss Violet Eastman with a garden pageant by Normal College girls. Holy Communion to be celebrated Friday at 8. Senior choir rehearsal Friday 6 46. Lutheran Ladies Aid meets April 9 at Mrs Pedersen s home.
Easter morning service at the First Lutheran Church features Holy Communion for adults, confirmations of four adults, and a sermon on the Reality of the Resurrection. An evening program at 7:30 presents a Garden pageant by the Normal group with songs, recitations, and readings celebrating the risen Christ.
The church will hold special faster services in connection with Sunday school at 10 30. Easter greetings will be read by Elder Beck a duet The Lord Is My Shepherd by the adult class ladies a retold story by Grant Hansen a chorus Easter Morning by Bettie Jo Jeppson Mary Dawn Warner Lawrence Christensen and Grant Hansen. An afternoon meeting is scheduled for 2 o clock attendance is invited.
Grace Methodist Church hosted a sunrise service at 7 a.m. led by George Dover with choir performances including He Is Risen and Jesus Lives. Baptisms were conducted and the sermon titled Immortality was delivered by Pastor J. D. Smith.
The Blue Mountain troop met at the guild hall Saturday night with Miss Roe as leader and Eloise Olmsted among guests. Arrangements are made for a swimming class for the Girl Scouts. start dates will be published this week, notes Catherine Brundage, scribe.
Francis Marilyn Orr died after a pneumonia battle in the Orr home. Born March 23 1930 she contracted whooping cough before Christmas and later succumbed to pneumonia. Funeral at St James Episcopal Church with Rev H N Tragitt officiating. interment at Mountain View cemetery. Survived by parents and two brothers Matthew and Jack.
The community committee plans the third annual show at the training school auditorium next Friday April 10. Proceeds fund local Girl Scout troops expenses for the coming year featuring a high school one act play directed by Violet Eastman, Dillon Choral Club led by Mrs. W. G. Gilbert, Montana State Normal College acts, Claudia Faust School of Dancing pupils, and other features.
The Future Farmers stock judging team placed second with 2 114 points at Cardwell led by Argyl Stephens of Dillon who won individual scoring with 745 of 800. Carl Hansen of Dillon was third with 7385. James Morrison won the Future Farmers speaking contest and will attend the state contest Boseman April 380 to May 3.
At a city hall caucus last Thursday evening Ed Lloyd withdrew and Dr W H Stephan proposed Hugh McCaleb who was nominated by acclamation. Other offices had no contest with F P Bulger for city treasurer and J P Phillips for police judge. Aldermen chosen: First ward H M Brundage, Second ward Lindley Phillips, Third ward A F Waldorf, Fourth ward Fred Woodside.
The Presbyterial society of Butte Presbytery will convene in Dillon on Wednesday April 8 with Mrs. Vernon Brown of Butte presiding and Mrs. David E. Johnson of Missoula present. A breakfast at 8 a.m. and luncheon at 12:30 accompany a full day program in Dillon including music and a neighborhood-house pageant.
One hundred eight Beaverhead Post members joined, 15 percent over quota, by Saturday night after Roundup week at the Metlen hotel. Visiting speakers included Department Commander A Livingstone and James Uncles of Butte, with John Gindgras, a Northwest rebellion veteran, performing The Marseillaise.
Funeral services for William Sherman Pyle ranch man of the Grasshopper section were held Monday afternoon at St James Episcopal church with Rev H N Tragitt officiating. The service was largely attended by residents of Dillon and surrounding county. Pallbearers included John Judge Ross Way Lon Banning Jamie Harrison Frank Marchesseau and Ed Slack. Interment followed at Mountain View cemetery. Mrs Tom Walker daughter of Mr Pyle arrived from Beaumont Texas Sunday evening.
A new automobile mail service from Butte to Dillon delivers first class mail by 8 o clock or earlier, four hours faster than before. W Daniels now operates the route, with a 4 am departure from Butte and 6 am arrival at Dillon, servicing six days a week. Postmaster J Fuller promoted the change after a train time adjustment, noting Jackson line patrons receive mail a day earlier and papers with their morning edition.
