Rotary and Lions clubs meet at Jackson for a Get Acquainted banquet as a benefit event. The gathering promotes cooperation between communities and supports planned activities for both groups.
Registration reached 435 yesterday with final enrollment expected at 450 as attendance marks the largest term total since autumn 1926.
A well attended banquet Saturday night brought together members of the Dillon Rotary Club and the Big Hole Lions Club in Jackson. About 30 Dillon members drove to the event and around 45 Big Hole basin men attended. Road improvements between Dillon and the basin were discussed in several talks.
Construction at the state hospital and state prison nears completion with relief for crowded quarters expected before winter. Governor Erickson and Secretary of State Harmon toured the sites and announced new administration offices and a dining hall for 500 prisoners at the Deer Lodge prison.
Ted Renfro Beaverhead county trapshooter and world champion live bird shot will again represent the United States in the international live bird shoot in Europe next winter. The 1932 event will be near Paris with top shooters from Monte Carlo 1931 and Rome 1930 in the field. Renfro informed the Montana Standard of his decision as Montana’s first representative on the three man U S team.
Lieutenant Governor Frank A. Hazel baker has secured a young buffalo from Yellowstone Park and will keep it on his ranch in the Big Hole basin. This marks the first time in years Beaverhead County will have a buffalo resident. The animal was part of a Montana Fish and Game Department exhibit at the county fair last week.
In Dillon a gold discovery rumor mingles with sports chatter as reporters ask locals who will win the World Series. Opinions split between Connie Mack's Athletics and Gabby Street's Cardinals, with the series fate seen as a formality by many.
A severe electrical disturbance preceded the heaviest rain of the season that drenched Dillon Monday night and yesterday morning. Streets flooded as merchants awoke at 2:30 to save basements while thunder roared for nearly an hour. Lightning struck no notable targets and the rain briefly turned to sleet and hail yesterday morning.

Women members of the Dillon Country club will stage their second annual fall tournament for the Harry Turner prizes next Sunday afternoon if weather permits. Play begins at one o clock with qualifying scores due to John Merhar the Dillon pro by five o clock tomorrow afternoon to aid in arranging the hands.
Beavers head home next Saturday to meet Butte Central Maroons at the local athletic field after a strong showing against Anaconda last week. Coach Breeden’s squad, though inexperienced, is expected to improve with practice and deliver a tougher front against Central.
Dillon Montanans Inc secretary and manager U Y G Emery will address the Beaverhead County Federation of Women’s Clubs in Dillon on Saturday October 3. His talk centers on state relief plans and Red Cross cooperation with Pecuacrsu.

Miss Hope Mathews and Id a Simons recently enrolled at the state university at Missoula have been pledged to sororities. Mathews to Kappa Alpha Theta and Simons to Sigma Chi.
Louis Schmittroth and Roy Forrester filmed their Salmon river canoe trip in August. The River of No Return shows wild uninhabited terrain for 135 miles as they journeyed down the river. The Dillon baker secured the film and screened it for friends after development.
The fall quarter at Montana State Normal College opened with the largest enrollment since 1926. Registration began Saturday and reached 436 by Friday, with officials predicting totals over 460 and a rise of 61 from last autumn.
Paul Saito, a Dillon photographer, and R Oachi a porter at the Oregon Short Line depot were injured Sunday when Saito's car overturned in loose gravel on the state highway near Monida. Saito broke a collar bone and Oachi was bruised and cut. Other occupants, all Japanese, escaped with minor cuts. The car was new and damaged. a police dog in the vehicle disappeared.
In Dillon on Thursday October 15 a major purebred Hereford sale will feature 100 head from the Bayers Hereford ranch in the Big Hole basin. The auction includes 85 bulls and 15 females of famed ancestry, led by noted auctioneer Fred Reppert of Decatur Indiana. Several cattle were shown at Beaverhead county fair to strong audience and praise.
Beaverhead post of the American Legion will hold its first session since summer vacation at the Sugar Bowl cafe tomorrow night. Delegates will report on two district conventions and the Miles City state convention, with business matters and plans for an Armistice Day celebration. The ensuing year’s activities including the 1932 membership drive will be discussed.
