Beaverhead Receives 84393 For Schools In 1955 56

A Montana Taxpayers Association report shows state aid for 1955 56 declined by 273000 from 1954 55 totals to 11882595. Beaverhead county received 24852 in elementary equalization and 10868 in high school equalization plus 39155 from income and interest and 9518 for transportation.

Grasshopper Control Meeting Planned in Wisdom

A meeting to discuss the spring 1957 Grasshopper Control program in the Big Hole Basin will be held at Wisdom Community Hall on Thursday September 27 at 8 00 p m Ranchers are urged to join Ivar Twildie head of the federal program and Forest Service and extension service representatives to plan control efforts amid summer grasshopper damage and potential group action.

Rev. Father Martin Florian, longtime pastor of Madison county Catholic churches, will leave the county to lead St. Rose's church in Dillon. His former duties included St Patricks Ennis St Marys Laurin and St Josephs Sheridan with Notre Dame Twin Bridges previously. Rebekah Official Makes Visit Here

Last Thursday evening Faye 8. Archer Warden of Rebekah Assembly of Montana made an official visit to Diana Rebekah lodge No. 42 of Dillon and Sincerity lodge No. 121 of Jackson at a joint meeting in Dillon IOOF hall. A banquet at the Methodist church honored Mrs. Archer followed by a Friday luncheon by the Past Noble Grand club. Mrs. Archer stayed with her son and daughter-in-law Patrol man and Mrs. Royal S. Archer.

Dr. Steele Takes Over as Western Montana College President

Dr. Herbert Steele, recently appointed president of Western Montana College of Education, arrived on campus to assume duties and meet faculty and students. He brings 25 years in public education and leaves Idaho State College where he led the Education department and summer school since 1948.

Registration of Students Opens at Western Montana College

Registration at Western Montana College of Education began Monday with about a ten percent higher headcount than the first day last year. Enrollment continues through next week as final figures are pending.

Butte Man Charged with Armed Robbery

Mike Rebroch, 43, a Butte miner, is charged with armed robbery after a store owner reported a man sought to buy a gun, demonstrated its condition, then robbed them at the city dump before fleeing. Rebroch was taken to the county jail by police and sheriff's deputies.

New Pastor Arrives with Family at Grace Methodist Church

Rev. Z. A. Jumper arrives as the new pastor of Grace Methodist Church succeeding Rev. Dennis Kinlaw after an interim period led by Rev. Tom Cummins. Born in Mississippi he studied at the state university and Emory University. He previously coached high school and served in the North Mississippi Conference since 1941 and led First Methodist in Leland before transferring to Dillon. The Jumper family of four includes two children Gene and Anne, enrolled at Western Montana College of Education.
