Kipp and the Fort Picgan Victory over Hudson Bay
James Kipp led a 44 man party to build Fort Picgan at the Marias mouth in 1831. He used bold diplomacy and a three day whisky gift to win Blackfeet trade, then repelled a Blood attack with a dramatic cannon shot and ice stockpiling, securing American fur dominance against Hudson Bay in the upper Missouri.
