Grayling Habitat Restored as Beaver Dams Are Removed

The Montana fish and game department reports grayling spawned in Red Rock Creek headwaters in Beaverhead county for the first time in 15 years. Officials say removal of 84 beaver dams on Red Rock and Tom Creek by department crews enables grayling to reach historic spawning grounds and helps reclaim habitat from eastern brook trout. This effort, in cooperation with Montana State College and the U S Fish and Wildlife Service, aims to restore Montana grayling numbers to levels seen in the Missouri drainage era.
