2nd Lt James Kelly arrived from Aberdeen Md after completing a special officer course. He will report to Fort Lewis Wash with the Ord nance department. Cpl Gilbert Hilde transferred from Camp Claiborne La to Camp Polk La. Francis Wayne Pettit 17 enlisted in the United States Marine Corps last Friday and will report to San Diego Ca for basic training after active duty. Navy cruiser crew guests Rotary Club in Dillon

The Dillon Rotary club hosted crew members from a Navy recruiting cruiser that visited Dillon on Monday and Tuesday. Navy representatives led by Miss Virginia Jackson spoke on Waves enlistments while Yeoman Gordon Mick played piano. Chief Machinists Mate John Christensen and S. F. Bell outlined the cruiser itinerary as visits continued across ten towns.

Navy Drive Boosts Dillon Bond Sales

An outstanding Beaverhead County bond drive event capped by a rally at Dillon High School Auditorium accompanied by the Navy recruiting cruiser visit. Beaverhead Post American Legion organized the program with Jay V. McCarthy on site. The Navy crew promoted life at sea amid music by the high school band and performances by local students and a girls quartet.

Francis M. Allison Dies After Lingering Illness

Francis M. Allison 78 died Tuesday morning after a long illness. He had lived in Beaverhead County and later moved to Green County Indiana and came here 16 years ago. The passing follows a brief illness and he was a longtime resident of the area.

State Normal Fall Quarter Opens Monday

Montana State Normal college inaugurated its autumn term with registration day on Saturday for early arrivals. Classes began yesterday as the term opened. Miss Georgia Mathews leads the residence hall and Miss Katherine MacGregor remains the school nurse. Faculty vacancies persist due to late resignations and part time hires may fill gaps. Elective courses are sealed for the opening weeks to meet student demands.

Local Plasterer Loses Car Stolen From Job Site

W. F. Miller a plasterer working at the State Bank building found his 38 Chrysler sedan missing after his assistant moved it. Deputies found the car abandoned near Big Sheep creek basin by Lima with no clues to the thief.

Bond drive nears half of March quota in Beaverhead county

A rally at Beaverhead county high school auditorium raised 52 675 toward a 486 000 county quota. Officials urged residents to invest up to their means as the drive divides the county into four districts with set shares: Dillon 214 635 Big Hole Divide area 85 465 Horse Prairie Grasshopper 72 840 Dell Lima 112 660. Pro rated allotments are being credited as funds come in.

Shells Released For Civilians Under War Production Quota

Farmers and ranchers may obtain shell and ammunition quotas from War Production. Certificates No 4 and 5 allow limited purchases of rim fire and center fire shells plus shotgun shells through local dealers before October 1. Larger amounts require a county board path to the Governing Division in Washington D C. Floyd Kenison urges all eligible to contact the War Board office.

Beaverhead Ram Show and Sale Next Monday

The annual Beaverhead ram show and sale will be held in Dillon next Monday with 400 rams consigned. Prizes totaling 85 dollars will be awarded as the show opens at 10 a.m. at the fairgrounds, followed by a sale starting at 1 p.m. Col Earl O Walter of Filer Idaho will auction. Funeral services for George FE Jewell, a well known former Dillon man, were held Saturday at the Masonic Hall in Helena after his death at the Montana Masonic home. The Dillon lodge No. 16 A F and A M and the Presbyterian church officiated with many local Masons in attendance.

Dillon Man Claimed by Heart Attack in Dillon

William Kenison longtime Beaver County resident of Dillon died suddenly at home from a heart attack after noon yesterday. Born in Bates County Missouri in 1866 he moved to Montana in 1894 living in Beaver and later Dillon. Survived by Minnie Pilerman his wife three daughters Mrs A Brown Mrs Elmer Sothsen and Mrs J Brown a son Ward Kenison grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral is Thursday at Brundage chapel with Rev Leonard Thompson officiating interment Mountain View cemetery.
