Accident Claims Life of Lima Ranch Hand
John Miles 67 died after a riding accident at the Gleed ranch near Lima last Tuesday. A frightened horse backed by a running pig collapsed, trapping him. he died at Barrett hospital after injuries including crushed side and broken ribs. Miles had lived in Beaverhead County 40 years and worked on multiple ranches. Coroner reports pending continuation.

The Rural Electrification Administration in Washington allot $118 000 for building 105 miles of electric line in Beaverhead Madison and Silver Bow counties. The line extends the Jefferson project, finished last year for $50 000, running from Silver Star through Twin Bridges to the Beaverhead valley and lower Big Hole.

Bogden Sentenced to One Year for Bad Check Charge
Philip Bogden, 30, pleaded guilty in district court to a bad check charge and was sentenced to one year in state prison. Judge Henry G. Rodgers delivered the sentence after Bogden allegedly passed a $60 forged check bearing the signature of J. C. Ferguson of Reichl ranch. A second man, O. L. Larson, was arrested for posing as a federal operator and handed to the FBI. Pete Poppie was detained on a third degree assault charge following a beer parlor altercation with Perry Watters.

Spelling Bee Revival Planned At St James Guild Hall
The spelling bee will be revived at a public entertainment at St James guild hall at 8 o clock tomorrow night under guild auspices. Mrs C P Thomas and Mrs W B Willey will head arrangements with Mrs F D Willis pronouncing the words. Teams will be formed, each with a captain, and community singing, refreshments, prizes, and a silver offering for cemetery improvement fund will accompany the event.

William Potts Brenner 56 prominent rancher of Horse Prairie died suddenly Friday morning at Barrett hospital after a brief illness. Born February 26 1882 in Philadelphia he came to Dillon with his parents in 1885 and grew up here attending St Pauls School in Dillon.

Final approval for a $165000 high school bond issue was granted by state superintendent Miss Ruth Reardon after a meeting with the school board. The Sept 30 election will decide funding to match a $135000 federal grant for a new Dillon high school building. The current structure is deemed unsafe and unsanitary.

Largest Potato Ranch Begins Annual Harvest
Beaverhead county agents report shipments of cattle and lambs will start within days with 115 cattle cars ordered for loading in October from Armstead and Divide. Irvine and Cottom of Dillon began a 300 acre seed potato harvest with 30 workers storing in a large Dillon root cellar and shipping seed potatoes to western states and Argentina.

Scout Drive to Start in City September 26
Funds to finance Boy Scout activities in the community during the coming year will be the objective of a drive which will get under way Monday, Sept. 26, simultaneously with other communities in the Silver Bow area. Norman Henry, secretary treasurer of the local citizens' committee, announced this week. A finance committee includes Joe Wedum, A. I. Cashmore, Guy D. Combes and Harold Snow. Scout activities for the fall season began Monday night with troops meeting at the Scout headquarters in the basement of the Andrus hotel, with Scout master Fielding Graves in charge.
