Montana voters to decide on county government consolidation amendment
Montana taxpayers will vote November 7 on Amendment Fifty four to Article 16 enabling counties to change their form of government and permitting city county consolidation. The proposal aims to reduce double taxation through modern commissions and flexible administration while preserving county autonomy and requiring local approval for any changes. Strong support from state party conventions and leading Montana figures backs the measure. Separate ballots will let voters choose whether to permit municipal plans for counties or counties and cities under general or special laws.
